Seoul accuses Pyongyang of launching cyber attacks on its system

Prosecutors said the malware used by hackers in the December 2014 attack on KHNP had a similar structure and code to “Kimsuky,” a type of malware commonly used by North Korean hackers.
Before the evidence was in hand, South Korea suspected the incident was linked to North Korea. Seoul authorities asked Beijing for help after Seoul prosecutors traced several Internet addresses involved in the attack to a town in northeastern China, which is known to be close to the North Korean border.
After hacking KHNP’s system, hackers posted documents from more than 23 South Korean nuclear reactors on Twitter. These documents included personal work records, equipment diagrams, and even tables estimating the amount of radiation that affected local residents.
