Pulled the trigger and shot his wife after a challenge
(Baonghean.vn) - Angry at his wife's challenge, "If you're good, shoot," Oc Van Son pulled the trigger. As a result, his wife was seriously injured, with 92% of her body injured.
On December 28, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance criminal trial of defendant Oc Van Son (born 1987), residing in Cam Muon commune, Que Phong district.
The indictment stated: At about 3:30 p.m. on July 27, 2023, Ms. Lu Thi N. came home from work and saw her husband, Oc Van Son, drinking with a person from the same village. She was angry and said, "You drink every day. Do you want to live like that?"
At 7 p.m. the same day, after finishing his wine, Son went to make instant noodles to eat. Ms. N. continued to say to her husband, "If you don't earn any money, what will you eat?"
Son said, “Even if you don’t work, you still have to eat.” After eating, Son went to sleep while Ms. N. went to the neighbor’s house to drink alcohol.
At 11pm that same day, Son called his wife home. When Ms. N. arrived home, she saw her husband taking out a homemade flintlock gun and intending to shoot a pig for meat. About a week before, Son had loaded gunpowder and pellets into the barrel of the gun to prepare for hunting.
When Son walked out to the main house with the flintlock gun, he met his wife. Ms. N. used her hand to grab the barrel of the gun, held it, pointed it at her stomach, and said, "If you're so good, shoot." At this time, Son was standing opposite Ms. N., holding the gun in both hands, the barrel of the gun pointed at his wife's stomach, the tip of the gun about 20cm away from her.
Angry that his wife had challenged him, Son used his index finger to pull the trigger, firing a shot into his wife's stomach, injuring Ms. N. At this point, Son let go of the gun and helped his wife lie down on the floor, then called for help.
Victim N. was then taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, while Oc Van Son went to Que Phong district police to surrender.
Authorities determined that Ms. N.'s wounds penetrated her abdomen, causing peritonitis, perforation of the small intestine in multiple locations, perforation of the colon, perforation of the uterus and bladder, and necrosis of the gallbladder due to firearms. The results of the victim N.'s disability assessment were 92%.
At the trial, defendant Oc Van Son admitted that because he was angry at his wife's challenging words, he could not control himself and caused the consequences.
Son cried many times and regretted his actions, and apologized to his wife, children and family. "The defendant realizes that his actions were wrong and hopes the court will consider reducing his sentence so that he can return to his wife and raise his children," Son mumbled.
The panel of judges determined that Oc Van Son's action was to use a homemade flintlock gun (a hunting gun), a dangerous weapon with high lethality, to shoot his wife in the abdomen. If not treated promptly, it could lead to death.
Considering the case comprehensively, the People's Court sentenced Oc Van Son to 12 years in prison for "Murder".
