In just one year, Ky and his accomplices committed dozens of motorbike thefts in Bac Lieu. This gang has branches in 16 provinces and cities with over 100 members.

On November 6, the leader of Bac Lieu Provincial Police said that the protection and judicial support force is preparing to extradite Nguyen Van Ky (37 years old) and his accomplices to many provinces and cities across the country to serve the investigation and trial for the crime of property theft. The furthest of which is Nam Dinh province.

A year and a half ago, Ky was arrested while carrying four arrest warrants from the police of Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Kien Giang and Ho Chi Minh City for theft. On the run, Ky went to Bac Lieu to rent a house and continued to gather his followers to steal motorbikes.

Ky is from Vinh Thuan, Vinh Thanh Trung commune (Chau Phu, An Giang). He dropped out of school after 3rd grade and hung out with friends until he got married in 2002.

When the eldest child was born in 2003, two years later, this father was sentenced by the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City to 4 years in prison for the crime of Receiving property obtained by others through criminal means. Released from prison in March 2007, this man refused to do honest work and gathered fellow prisoners and young people to commit crimes.

According to an investigator, Ky’s gang has over 100 members who have fallen into the hands of the law. They operate in 16 provinces and cities and have committed over 3,500 motorbike thefts with total assets worth tens of billions of dong.

In the provinces, Ky had "regional generals" as his subordinates, assigned by the super thief to participate in managing many underlings.

After Ky was arrested, authorities discovered that his partners had transferred money hundreds of times into his account, totaling over 7 billion VND.

In Bac Lieu, Ky committed the crime with 13 accomplices, of whom 2 are wanted. The first case here was committed by the gang of super thieves at 6:00 p.m. on July 20, 2013, at a woman's house on Tran Phu Street, Ward 7, Bac Lieu City.

That time, Ky and Ngo Thanh Tam (32 years old, living in Long Xuyen City, An Giang) unlocked and stole Yen Phuong's Vision motorbike with license plate 94C. Afterwards, the thieves took the victim's motorbike to Ky's boarding house in Hoa Binh town (Hoa Binh, Bac Lieu).

Having a partner who sold stolen cars in the border area, Ky assigned his accomplices to bring Ms. Phuong's car to An Giang and then sell it to Cambodia.

In the 38th theft on the night of March 6, 2014, Ky and his accomplice named Hai went to 16 Chau Van Dang Street (Bac Lieu City), used a short knife to unlock and stole an Airblade motorbike with license plate 94B. This motorbike belonged to the Logistics - Technical Department of Bac Lieu Provincial Police but was assigned to Major General Do Viet Thang (former Director of Bac Lieu Police) for use.

After cleaning the stolen car, Ky and his accomplice Thuan were about to hand it over to their accomplices to sell when Thuan was arrested by the police and Ky escaped. Three days later, the whereabouts of this super thief were exposed and the police arrested Ky while he was preparing to flee to another province.

On September 22, the People's Court of Bac Lieu Province sentenced Ky to 19 years in prison for theft of property. The panel added 3 years to the sentence for a similar crime by the People's Court of Soc Trang Province. His other accomplices also received sentences ranging from 3 years and 6 months to 13 years and 6 months in prison.

Before Ky was arrested, Bac Lieu police also successfully dismantled a gang of super thieves led by Quach Van Chien (23 years old, residing in Soc Trang city, Soc Trang province). During the investigation, Bac Lieu police summoned Chien's cousin, Tran Thi Dieu Hien, to work.

Although Hien did not commit a crime in Bac Lieu, when questioned by the police, this 25-year-old woman confessed to dozens of thefts in Soc Trang led by Hien.

As for Chien, he was arrested after breaking into Mr. Pham Minh Tu's house in Gia Rai (Bac Lieu) on February 10, 2013. In this case, Chien stole 880 million VND, 4,000 USD, and over 13 taels of various types of gold.

Previously, Chien broke into the house of Ms. Ly Thi Bong in Gia Rai, taking away a lot of gold, diamonds, USD... with a total value of nearly 2.2 billion VND.

Currently, Chien has been sentenced to a total of over 70 years in prison by provincial courts. His wife, Huynh Ngoc Thuy (24 years old), is also a defendant in several theft cases.
