Le Van Duan committed hundreds of motorbike thefts in provinces and cities across the country. The stolen goods he sold ended up in the hands of a more skilled “super thief”.

On the afternoon of August 3, the People's Court of Soc Trang province sentenced Le Van Duan (34 years old, residing in Nam Dinh province) to 30 years in prison for "Theft of property". Of which, 15 years in Soc Trang, plus 19 years in other provinces just sentenced, namely Binh Dinh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Tan Binh district (Ho Chi Minh City).

Committing the crime of “Theft of property” with Duan, Nguyen Hoang Khang (45 years old, residing in Dong Nai province) received 12 years in prison; Le Phuong Binh (35 years old, residing in Vinh Long province) received 12 years and 6 months in prison; Tran Van Kinh (66 years old, no fixed residence) received 3 years and 9 months in prison.

Nguyen Van Ky (38 years old, living in An Giang) was sentenced to 18 months in prison for the crime of "Receiving property obtained by others through criminal acts", but he received 29 years in prison plus 27 years and 6 months in prison in other provinces for the crime of "Theft of property".

According to the case file, Duẩn had a previous conviction for “Theft of property”. After being released from prison, he went to the West to form an inter-provincial motorbike “hot rock” gang. In Soc Trang alone, from the end of September 2013 to March 2014, Duẩn, Khang, Binh and Kinh committed 19 motorbike thefts in districts and cities in Soc Trang province with a total property value of nearly 600 million VND.

Their method was to use a short wrench to unlock the car, take the motorbike and park it in front of the house or in an unattended place. One of the people who bought the counterfeit goods of Duẩn’s group was Kỳ – a “super thief” who committed hundreds of cases and had accomplices operating in 16 provinces and cities across the country.

On March 10, 2014, Ky was arrested after stealing a motorbike from Do Viet Thang, former Director of Bac Lieu Provincial Police. Based on Ky's testimony, in July 2014, Duan and his accomplices were arrested by Bac Lieu Police. Meeting each other in court on the afternoon of August 3, Ky and Duan appeared happy. When they saw the reporter's lens, Ky smiled and asked: "Remember to put my photo on the cover page."
