The Man Utd captain has officially confirmed that the Red Devils are in the process of negotiating to complete a contract with the Spanish goalkeeper.

Edwin van der Sar will officially retire from football after the final match against Barcelona in the early morning of next Sunday. With the departure of the devoted goalkeeper, Red Devils fans cannot help but feel worried about the position in front of the Red Devils' goal.

However, the Old Trafford board have found a replacement for the veteran Dutch star. Speaking after the match to honor Gary Neville, manager Alex Ferguson confirmed for the first time that Man Utd are trying to complete a contract with young goalkeeper David De Gea from Atletico Madrid.

“We have been following De Gea for a long time and we see him as the right man to replace Van der Sar. David is young, quick on the feet, solid and has a lot of potential.”

“Of course, finding someone capable enough to replace Edwin is not easy at all. But I believe that David de Gea possesses many of the same qualities as Van der Sar.”

Along with Sir Alex's confirmation, the British press confirmed that David de Gea will officially arrive at the Theatre in the near future with a transfer fee ranging from 17.5 to 18.3 million pounds.
