Summary of 3 years of crime prevention and drug prevention program

(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of March 29, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to review 3 years of implementing the national target programs on drug abuse prevention, drug abuse prevention, and human trafficking prevention in 2012. Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Member of the Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for drug abuse prevention, AIDS prevention, drug abuse prevention, and prostitution prevention chaired the conference.

Over the past 3 years, drug addiction treatment in the province has seen many changes. According to a survey as of December 31, 2011, the province still had 5,413 drug addicts, a decrease of 961 people compared to the end of 2008. Addicts are mainly treated in the community and social labor education centers, and reformed labor in prisons and detention camps.

The reception and classification of subjects for concentrated rehabilitation at the Social Labor Education Centers are carried out in accordance with the process and procedures. Subjects undergoing rehabilitation are cared for to restore their health and receive withdrawal treatment according to the treatment regimen prescribed by the Ministry of Health, ensuring safety. In 3 years, the Social Labor Education Centers have received and rehabilitated 2,651 people. Detention centers and temporary detention centers have organized rehabilitation for 912 people (achieving 140% of the set target).

Along with drug addiction treatment, the Social Labor Education Centers have coordinated with vocational schools to organize career orientation, impart and teach occupations such as industrial sewing, civil electricity, bamboo and rattan weaving, stone carving, brick making, incense making... to 763 students.

To continue to improve the effectiveness of the drug addiction treatment and post-treatment management program for drug addicts, the Provincial People's Committee has implemented the drug addiction treatment and post-treatment management program for the period 2011-2015. With the goal of strengthening, promoting and maximizing the combined strength of the government, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations, agencies and units in wards, communes and towns, in organizing drug addiction treatment and post-treatment management. Strive for 100% of drug addicts to be applied with appropriate drug addiction treatment and post-treatment management measures; 30% of drug addicts after treatment will receive vocational counseling, vocational training, job training and job creation.

Regarding the implementation of the national program on crime prevention, drug prevention, and human trafficking prevention, it must be effectively integrated with national programs on economic development, poverty reduction, AIDS prevention and social evils to continue to control and reduce all types of crime and social evils, not allowing the formation of organized crime and mafia-style activities. Effectively prevent and suppress international crimes, crimes against children, human trafficking; drug crimes, economic crimes, corruption, environmental crimes, smuggling, trade fraud, high-tech crimes, etc.

On this occasion, 31 groups and 33 individuals were awarded certificates of merit by the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in implementing drug addiction treatment in the province.
