Summary of 3 years of inventory of intangible cultural heritage

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 10, 2014, in Vinh City, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee held a conference to review 3 years of implementing the plan to inventory intangible cultural heritage (2011-2013) and deploy tasks from 2014 to 2015.

Comrades Dinh Thi Le Thanh, member of the Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, representative of the Department of Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and districts and cities in the province attended the conference.

After 3 years of inventory, it has been confirmed that the province currently has 7,650 intangible cultural heritages, including 7 types: language, writing (31 heritages); festivals (106 heritages); traditional crafts (87 heritages); folk performing arts (104 heritages); folk knowledge (163 heritages); folk literature (71 heritages); social customs (198 heritages). Districts and towns have made 91 VCDs, 575 photos depicting heritages; 9 districts and 45 communes have built heritage distribution maps. The whole province currently has 870 artisans; has coordinated to prepare a dossier to submit to UNESCO for recognition of Vi Giam folk songs as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

However, the direction of the inventory is still confusing, and many localities are slow and intermittent in implementation. The qualifications of grassroots officials are limited, they do not yet understand the methods of inventory and classification; they have not yet fully identified the treasure trove of intangible cultural heritage in the community, and most of the heritage has not been documented.

From now until 2015, the cultural sector will continue to complete the heritage inventory dossier, prepare dossiers of typical heritages to propose inclusion in the national heritage list; prepare dossiers to propose recognition of the title of Folk Artist; build a database of intangible cultural heritage; and promote propaganda and promotion.
