Nghe An has a 419.5 km long border, adjacent to 3 provinces of Lao PDR: Xieng Khouang, Hua Phan and BolykhamXay. According to the plan of the Vietnam-Laos Joint Border Marker Planting Committee, the line will be thickened and renovated 105 locations with 115 border markers. Immediately after the plan was made, the Nghe An Provincial Marker Planting Steering Committee established 2 marker planting teams with the task of surveying and planting markers on the management line.

The mountainous terrain in the border area of Nghe An province is extremely difficult and complicated, the national border markers that need to be restored and increased are all located at an average altitude of over 1,500m above sea level. Therefore, in the process of performing the task, the Provincial Marker Planting Steering Committee has regularly led and directed the marker planting teams, departments, branches, armed forces and related localities to develop action plans in each assigned scope and area; ensuring political security and order in the border area, creating favorable conditions for survey and marker planting activities. At the same time, attention is paid to selecting the construction unit, with the motto: saving costs, keeping on schedule, meeting standards, ensuring technical and aesthetic standards.

After 4 years of implementation, Nghe An province has surveyed 94/115 markers and supervised the construction of 73/115 border markers. Thereby, it has contributed to building the border of the two countries more and more sustainable, deepening the friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
