Summary of the first round of Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 28, the Provincial Department of Health held a conference to review the first measles-rubella vaccination campaign and provide training on diagnosis, treatment, and environmental monitoring in Ebola prevention.

Comrade Hoang Van Hao, Deputy Director of the Department of Health chaired the conference. Also attending were representatives of leaders and heads of infectious disease departments of hospitals and medical centers throughout the province.

According to the data report of the Provincial Center for Preventive Medicine, the first phase of the Measles - Rubella Vaccination Campaign in the expanded immunization from October 1, 2014 to November 15, 2014, the Campaign was organized in 21 districts, towns and cities. The initial results of the campaign were 270,226 children from 1 year old to 14 years old were vaccinated/278,801 children surveyed for vaccination. Thus, the first phase of the Campaign reached a rate of 96.9%, higher than the proposed rate of over 95%.

Overview of the conference

Through the monitoring process, it was shown that Nghe An has implemented the campaign methodically and thoughtfully according to professional procedures, especially with the attention, direction and active support of the local government, departments and organizations. The campaign organization has mobilized all local staff; the screening process was good, and there were no serious complications during the injection.

The delegates focused on discussing and clarifying the results achieved, the shortcomings, limitations as well as proposing recommendations to effectively implement the second phase of the campaign. The second phase of the measles-rubella vaccination campaign is planned to be held from December 13 to December 31, 2014, with an expected vaccination for about 284,034 children aged 6 to 10. The third phase, from December 20 to February 15, 2015, will vaccinate about 141,280 children aged 11 to 14 in the whole province.

Also at the conference, delegates were trained on diagnosis and treatment of Ebola virus, disease surveillance procedures at border gates, and how to use personal protective equipment to ensure safety in preventing this dangerous disease.
