Miss Vietnam Southern Region Preliminary
The preliminary round of the Miss Vietnam contest in the Southern region has selected 39 contestants to attend the Final Night taking place on the evening of November 9 in Bac Lieu. However, is it valid that the 39 contestants were only selected by 4/5 judges?
In 2014, the Miss Vietnam contest had only one jury to judge from the preliminary round to the final night. The contest lasted for more than a month, so it was not easy to invite judges to accompany. Therefore, instead of seven members, the jury of Miss Vietnam only had five.
Recently, in the Preliminary round in the Southern region, the judge - Miss Ngoc Han was absent. The reason is that Ngoc Han is in France to participate in the Closing Ceremony of the Vietnam - France Cross Year 2013-2014 (taking place on November 3 at the Paris City Hall) and the show of the Vietnamese Ao Dai collection on brocade material will also take place in France on November 6.

Responding to TT&VH’s question about why the Miss Vietnam pageant’s Organizing Committee agreed to have judge – Miss Ngoc Han absent and whether this absence would affect the selection process, Mr. Le Xuan Son – Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper, Head of the Miss Vietnam pageant’s Organizing Committee – said: “During the organization of the contest, such situations were reported to the Department of Performing Arts. The Department said that during the selection process, judges could be absent but must ensure the majority. Therefore, when we agreed to let Ngoc Han participate in the Closing Event of the Vietnam – France Cross Year in Paris”.
According to Mr. Le Xuan Son, in the preliminary round in the Southern region, the judges were highly unanimous. “Ngoc Han has experience in performing, so having Ngoc Han present is the best. But I personally attended the competitions and saw that the judges were all experienced and proficient. They worked with a sense of responsibility, accuracy and impartiality. They were also capable of assessing on behalf of Ngoc Han. Judge Diep Linh has experience in determining body measurements. Meanwhile, choreographer Tran Ly Ly can assess performance ability,” Mr. Son added.
Talking to a cultural management officer, we learned that the current law does not prohibit judges from being absent. It is known that the Miss Vietnam 2014 contest project also has regulations on scoring. In which, absent or late judges are not allowed to participate in scoring. However, even without regulations, the number of judges present must reach at least more than half.
"Certainly, at the final night and the final, all 5 judges will have to be present" - Mr. Le Xuan Son affirmed.
The final round of the Miss Vietnam contest in the Southern region will take place on the evening of November 9 in Bac Lieu province. This year, for the first time, the regional rounds of Miss Vietnam will be organized on a large scale, recorded and rebroadcast on VTV.
The final round of Miss Vietnam will take place from November 23 to December 6 in Phu Quoc, with the participation of 40 best contestants.
