The number of candidates entering military schools is many times higher than the target.

The Military Medical Academy has 2,500 preliminary registration files, with a quota of 238; the Military Technical Academy has 3,600 preliminary registration files, with a quota of 488.

Colonel Vu Xuan Tien, Head of the Secretariat of the Military Admissions Board of the Ministry of National Defense, answered questions from candidates regarding the 2017 university admissions at the admissions consultation day, held on July 8 in Hanoi.

- SHow many applications are there to the Military Medical Academy and Military Technical Academy this year? What is the competition ratio?

-For the Military Medical Academy, this year there are about 2,500 applications for preliminary selection, while the quota is 238.The number of applications for the preliminary selection to the Military Technical Academy is 3,600, the quota is 488. Thus, the competition ratio is 1/7.5.

This is the competition ratio when considering preliminary registration. After knowing the exam results,Perhaps only students with high scores will apply, the rest will adjust their wishes, so the competition rate will decrease.

Regarding the score, you can refer to the benchmark scores of previous years. As you can see, the results of the national high school exam this year have slightly increased, so we think the benchmark score cannot be lower, only equal to or higher than last year.

- What is the competition rate for Army Officer School 1, Logistics Academy this year? If I pass the Army Officer School, will the school or the Ministry of Education and Training assign the faculty?

- This year, the Army Officer School 1 has 3,574 applications for the preliminary selection, with a quota of 686. If admitted to the Army Officer School 1, after 6 months of study, students will be assigned to a department. The school has several departments such as: infantry, special reconnaissance, and mechanical reconnaissance. The school will assign which department the student attends, based on the exam scores and first semester study results.

This year, the Logistics Academy has 2,000 applications for preliminary selection, the school accepts (not including direct admission) 484 positions. Block A and block A1 have the same score.

- MEvery year, military schools select about 50 students to study police. So what are the criteria to register to study police?

- Our military schools annually send about 200 students to study abroad, such as Australia, Russia, Czech Republic, Japan - countries with good military systems. At the same time, we also select and send students to some civilian schools that military schools cannot train, such as some majors in the universities of Construction, Social Sciences and Humanities, Foreign Trade, Banking, or some schools under the Ministry of Public Security such as the Security Academy, Police Academy...

We have published this quota on the Ministry of National Defense's electronic information portal. This quota is assigned to each school. For example, if you want to study in the Police Department, you must study at the Army Officer School 1. When you enroll, the school will base on the benchmark scores of the schools that intend to send you to study to select and you must register before the school will send you. In case of a shortage of quotas, the school will consider mobilizing students.

- If I want to work in the police force, is that possible?

- Of course not. If you were sent by the army, due to the training cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense, after completing your studies, you would return to the Ministry of National Defense and be awarded the rank of officer of the Vietnam People's Army by the Ministry of National Defense and work in the army.

- I registered for the preliminary selection of military schools, what will the selection process be like?

- Candidates who have registered for preliminary admission to any school must now register for admission to that school. Candidates cannot change schools or majors.

For example, if you apply to the Army Officer School, you will have to take the entrance exam at that school. If you want to change your application from the Armored School to the Army Officer School, you cannot do so. Because the initial application process is different for each school. We have announced from the beginning in the media that candidates will apply for the subjects they have taken the entrance exam for.

- I registered my first choice at the military school block A01, but I also registered my second choice at another school, how will my score be considered?

- For the military system, you can only register one wish with one admission combination. In 2017, there were some things to note when registering for admission. Firstly, there were many students who did not register for the preliminary selection for military schools, but registered for admission to the military system of military schools. Therefore, the schools did not accept this wish, and the students were not considered for admission.

Second, there are some students who have registered for the preliminary selection to enter the military school but did not register for the entrance exam. This case is also not accepted because the preliminary registration is the preliminary selection based on health standards, political qualities, etc. To be admitted to the school, students must register for the entrance exam as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training as the first choice.

Third, some students register for the preliminary round, but register for admission in their second and third choices. We suggest that students adjust their first choice. If they leave their second and third choices, the schools will not accept their application.

- EI want to learn about the military environment to apply for admission, especially for military doctors?

- When admitted, students will receive military enlistment papers and the army will guarantee their meals, accommodation, rest, and education. Military doctors must study for 6.5 years, and are guaranteed all their nutrition and education. Students do not have to pay any additional fees.

Every year, you will have Tet holiday and official leave. When you graduate, you will be awarded the rank of officer. The Ministry of National Defense will assign you to work at military medical facilities across the country.

According to the Law on Officers of the Vietnam People's Army, after graduating from school, students are awarded the rank of second lieutenant; if they study well, are commended, or are Party members who complete their tasks well, they are awarded the rank of lieutenant, and in some cases, they are awarded the rank of first lieutenant.
