A Mexican female reporter has been fired after being lifted over a puddle by two locals while she was reporting on floods.

According to The Sun newspaper, female reporter Lydia Cumming, working for TV Azteca, did not want to get her shoes wet while working in a flooded area in the city of Puebla, central Mexico.

However, Lydia told Buzzfeed that two locals said an old lady was still stuck in a wheelchair, so they volunteered to carry her to the old lady's house.

"I try to maintain good relations with people and I was afraid of offending someone if I refused their goodwill. They lifted me for a few seconds and then I asked them to put me down," Lydia explained.

The photo of a middle-aged man and woman carrying Lydia across a flooded road was quickly turned into many humorous versions by netizens.

Just hours after the photos were posted online, Juan Carlos Valerio - Lydia's boss at TV Azteca's Puebla branch - announced the reporter's dismissal.

"I apologize for what happened. Her attitude was unacceptable, so we fired her," Juan shared on Twitter.
