Exciting production launch at the beginning of the year

In the agricultural sector, the spring atmosphere is filling every corner of the countryside, but people in Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, Quynh Luu districts... have happily gone to the fields, bringing with them the hope of a golden and bountiful harvest season.

Industry and services: Urgent from the early days

On the morning of the 4th day of the Lunar New Year, February 3, in the joyful atmosphere of the first days of the new year, Cua Lo Port held a ceremony to welcome the first shipment of the year 2014. At the ceremony to welcome the first shipment of 2014, Cua Lo Port loaded and unloaded over 300 containers from the 8,000-ton Viet Sun Pacific ship belonging to the Viet Nhat Transport Company. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded was large, but with the spirit of urgent work, in a short time, the entire volume of cargo was completed on schedule. Mr. Vuong Dinh Thang, dispatcher of Cua Lo Port said: This is the first shipment of the new year to Cua Lo Port. Hopefully in 2014 there will be more ships arriving at the port, not only bringing benefits to customers but also rapidly increasing the amount of goods passing through the port, increasing revenue, and creating favorable conditions for both jobs and life for workers. To unload goods on schedule, the port has mobilized 2 teams (each team has 15 workers) to take turns working continuously from 7am to 6pm to release ships as quickly as possible. After the Tet holiday, the workers worked very enthusiastically and urgently, so they will meet the set schedule.

In 2013, Cua Lo Port (under Nghe Tinh Port One Member Co., Ltd.) focused on investing, equipping more facilities and equipment, and improving the cargo handling lines and tools. The port received more than 960 ships receiving and delivering cargo, with an output of over 2.3 million tons, an increase of 20% compared to 2012; revenue reached over 120 billion VND, estimated profit reached nearly 5 billion VND, average income of employees reached over 6 million VND/person/month, fulfilling 100% of obligations to the State, actively participating in social activities. In the new year 2014, Nghe Tinh Port strives to achieve a cargo output of over 2.4 million tons, revenue reaching 125 billion VND.

To achieve the above targets, Nghe Tinh Port will focus on strengthening production direction, rationally arranging human resources and equipment, saving production costs, increasing labor productivity, and quickly releasing ships; continuing to innovate loading and unloading technology processes and investing in additional equipment to improve production and business efficiency. In addition, the port will implement many measures to attract customers, open more container transport routes at Cua Lo Port; and effectively implement democratic regulations to create consensus and solidarity among cadres, workers and civil servants.

On the same day of the 4th of the Lunar New Year, Sao Vang high-grade NPK fertilizer factory under Nghe An Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Corporation started production of the first tons of goods in the new year. This is one of the units that started production the earliest among the enterprises in our province to promptly supply fertilizer for winter-spring production. On the first day of operation, the factory mobilized more than 80 workers to work from 8am to 5pm to meet the fertilizer demand of districts and cities in the whole province. Ms. Le Thi Nam, from Block 1, Hung Nguyen Town, a worker of the company said: Last year, although there were many difficulties, the company ensured full salary and Tet bonus for workers. After the Tet holiday, the company's workers were very excited and eager to get back to work. We hope that in 2014, the company will continue to maintain its market share, contributing to improving the income and life of workers. Sharing the same sentiment, Mr. Nguyen Van Hong from Nghi Long commune (Nghi Loc), a worker at the company, said: “We have had nearly a week off for Tet so now is the time to go to work as usual. All the workers here are happy and excited even though they go to work early. On the first day of work, the company's leaders came to the factory to congratulate and encourage the working spirit of the staff on the first day of the year.”

In 2013, in addition to trading in fertilizers and plant varieties, Nghe An Agricultural Materials Corporation will expand strategic equity investment to participate in the production of cassava starch for export and put into operation a rice milling line with a capacity of 130 tons/hour in Nam Cam Industrial Park, closing the production and business chain, facilitating the purchase and consumption of agricultural products, especially high-quality rice that the company supplies to farmers. Mr. Truong Van Hien, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of the Corporation, said: It is expected that the factory will produce about 100 tons of fertilizer and in the following days, the productivity will reach about 180 - 190 tons/day. The total expected output in 2014 of the factory is about 50,000 tons, with revenue reaching more than 400 billion VND.

Also from the 6th day of the Lunar New Year, sugar, cement and textile factories in the province have returned to normal working conditions. Restaurants, supermarkets and markets have also begun to reopen after a period of Tet holiday. Along the streets such as Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Le Hong Phong, Tran Phu, Quang Trung... many stores have opened since the 2nd day of Tet and by the morning of the 4th day of Tet, almost all stores have started trading and doing business as usual. This year, due to limited purchasing power of the people, goods in the stores are still very abundant. Therefore, the early opening of stores is both to clear out goods and meet the needs of people shopping at the beginning of the year. Ms. Le Thi Tuyet, owner of an electronics store on Quang Trung Street, said: The amount of goods the store imported this year is a lot, but the purchasing power of the people is somewhat lower, so there is a lot of inventory. Therefore, the family chose the 3rd day of Tet to open the store for luck. In the first days of the year, although there were not many customers coming to see and buy products, the buying and selling work was still okay and hopefully this year the business will be favorable. Sharing the same sentiment, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, owner of a grocery store on Quang Trung Street, said: People's mentality now is not to store a lot of goods in the house, so from the 4th, we opened the store to meet the needs of the people. At the beginning of the year, wholesale also does not focus on population issues, so customers can come and shop comfortably.

With the determination to achieve the set goals right from the first days of the first month of the year, enterprises and production and business units in the province entered the new year of Giap Ngo with a bustling and exciting atmosphere, promising a new year with many new successes.

Farmers eagerly go to the fields...

On the morning of the 4th day of Tet, while the scent of incense was still lingering, Mr. Nguyen Van Nam in Thanh Tung commune, Thanh Chuong district went to the field. The first thing he did was to lift the plastic sheets covering the rice seedlings to check whether the rice seedlings planted before Tet were growing normally or not. Mr. Nam said that almost every year, people in his hometown go to the field from the 4th or 5th day of Tet. This year in particular, the weather was nice, sunny, and there was no frost, so people had to go to the field even earlier to take advantage of the weather and to be on time for the season.

Not only farmers in Thanh Tung commune but also in other communes such as Thanh Ha, Thanh Long, Thanh Giang, Thanh Mai, Thanh Lam of Thanh Chuong district, farmers also moved Tet to the fields with an excited and joyful atmosphere. Along the inter-district road from Thanh Ha commune to Thanh Long, Vo Liet of Thanh Chuong district, from early morning on the 4th day of Tet, many people carried hoes to the fields, checked the water ditches, turned over the plastic sheets to cover the rice seedlings and some other people took the opportunity to pull out the seedlings to transplant rice.

Passing Thanh Khai commune of Thanh Chuong district, along National Highway 46, people of Nam Thai commune, Nam Dan district also went to the fields very early. Below the field near the tomb of King Mai's mother, from the morning, people's voices rang out, asking about Tet, wishing each other health and happiness. While taking the time to pull up rice seedlings for his wife to plant rice, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Minh in Nam Thai commune happily said that before Tet, the weather was very cold, so his family had to cover the area that had been sown with plastic. "While celebrating Tet, I was also worried about the young rice fields, but thanks to sowing and covering with plastic properly, the quality of the rice fields was guaranteed. Hopefully, from now until the end of January, the weather will be nice so that the planted rice areas can develop well," Mr. Minh confided.

Although there are still many banh chung and Tet jams in the house, the Tet atmosphere is bustling with songs and singing full of spring colors from new generation speakers, young people and students are still busy going out for spring, visiting friends and teachers, but many farmers in Hung Dao commune, Hung Nguyen district have taken advantage of going to the fields very early to plant rice in time for the season. While asking about the new year of her neighbor's family, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai waded straight down to plant rice seedlings. In the next corner, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Binh also took the opportunity to bring out the plow to carefully re-pave the field area for planting rice seedlings tomorrow. In all other fields of Hung Nguyen district, Vinh city, Nghi Loc, farmers are also bustling to bring Tet to the fields. "January is the month of fun" but for farmers who work with mud all year round, only 3 days (30th, 1st and 2nd) are they really off from farming. This year of the Horse, heralds good fortune as the weather is favorable for farming. Hopefully, the new year will be a year of favorable rain, wind, and warm weather so that farmers can have a bountiful harvest.

Traveling on provincial road 538, national highway 1A, across the fields in Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, people carrying rice seedlings, fertilizers, and people planting rice are bustling. At Con Trai and Dap Danh fields (Dien Dong commune, Dien Chau), the whole field is as joyful as a festival. Mr. Tran Van Chien in hamlet 5 said: Tet in the village is very happy but we have to go to the field to be on time for the season. The weather is getting warmer so sowing and planting will be favorable, in 3-4 days the whole field will be covered in green. It is known that Mr. Chien's family grows 4 sao of rice fields, last season the family grew AC5 and Khang Dan 18 varieties with good quality yield, so this year the entire area is sown with the above two varieties of rice. With an excited face, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha confided: Because the rice seedlings are all covered with plastic, 100% of the rice seedlings grow well. Enjoying Tet but not forgetting the task, spring crop production is the most important of the year so just waiting for the right day to go to the field. Right before Tet (the 29th day of the lunar calendar), my family still had to concentrate on making the soil really soft and smooth according to the technical process. According to Ms. Ha, in addition to planting pure rice varieties, the family also planted new rice varieties TBR 1 for high yield, this is also a diversified intensive farming method to increase income for rice growers.

Mr. Truong Van Hoa - Chairman of Dien Dong Commune People's Committee said: This spring crop, Dien Dong planted 320 hectares of rice, according to the district's crop calendar, starting on the 4th (lunar calendar), the whole commune planted seedlings and planted. Basically, people strictly followed the crop calendar, in the fields all people simultaneously went out. Mainly focusing on hybrid rice varieties, AC5, Khang Dan 18... It is expected that from the 4th-5th of the lunar calendar, the whole Dien Dong commune will plant about 100 hectares, until January 14-15 (lunar calendar) will end the planting period. In Dien Dong, the entire rice area has been converted to land, so it is convenient for land preparation, especially the bank system of the field bank has been dug and repaired over 100,000 m3 of land, so water loss is limited. In 2013, with the support of the State and the people's internal resources, the commune solidified 5 km of canals worth over 10 billion VND to serve irrigation for 120 hectares of rice area in 4 hamlets.

Mr. Pham Xuan Vinh - Head of the Department of Agriculture of Dien Chau district added: This spring crop, Dien Chau has basically finished converting the land, so 9,100 hectares of rice land were all prepared during the Lunar New Year and had time to soak manure and lime powder to kill pests. Dien Chau is divided into 2 planting seasons from the 4th day of the Lunar New Year, planting early season with AC5, TBR 1, Khang Dan 18 varieties, season 2 focuses on planting Nhi Uu 986, Khai Phong I varieties... It is expected that by January 5 (lunar calendar), Dien Chau will have planted over 3,000 hectares, and by February 16, the whole district will have finished planting. On January 6 (lunar calendar), the district established a delegation including officials from the Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, and Plant Protection Station to inspect the planting progress and provide timely support for the spring rice crop.

In Yen Thanh, the province's rice district, in the thin spring mist, on the fields of Mat Hai and Ca Nghe of Loc Thanh hamlet (Nam Thanh - Yen Thanh), people were busy planting spring rice. Ms. Le Thi Nga shared: My family has 6 sao of rice fields, half of which use Khang Dan variety and the rest use hybrid varieties for high yield. To ensure the crop schedule, my family had to ask for help from neighbors to be determined to plant all the above area in the next 5 days. Many households also brought banh chung, banh tet, and green tea to the fields for lunch to compete with the crop schedule. On the afternoon of the 4th day of Tet, Mr. Nguyen The Trung - Chairman of Nam Thanh Commune People's Committee and a group of commune officials went to inspect the rice fields, urging people to plant, planning to plant all 260 hectares of rice by the end of January 8 (lunar calendar). Because right from the beginning of the crop, Nam Thanh mobilized forces to dredge over 10,000 m3 of canal mud and solidify canal 42, so irrigation for rice plants was very favorable.

Head of the Yen Thanh District Agriculture Department, Mr. Nguyen Van Duong said: In the days before the Lunar New Year, district officials "camped" in the area to regularly check and remind people to cover the seedlings with plastic and spread ash, drain water during the day, and add water at night to warm the seedlings, so that the seedlings grow well, ensuring to serve over 12,900 hectares of rice. Up to this point, Yen Thanh has not had any communes that have to plant spare seedlings. In 2014, the beginning of spring was on the 5th day of the Lunar New Year, on that basis, the district directed the correct application of the province's crop calendar and depending on the growing time of each variety and the actual conditions of the locality to arrange the appropriate sowing and planting season according to the principle, ensuring that the rice differentiates into panicles and blooms in suitable weather. Planting ensures that the spring rice blooms from April 25 to May 5, avoiding the rice blooming in the cold at the end of the season. Particularly in the summer-autumn production areas that are flooded, the district recommends blooming from April 20 to April 25. This year, Yen Thanh has converted 37/38 communes and towns into land. In addition to using machinery in production, mainly for land preparation, Tho Thanh commune has demonstrated a model of using rice transplanters quite effectively. The rice transplanter has a capacity of 1 hectare/hour, the machine is suitable for swampy fields, the machine is worth 100 million VND, the District People's Committee has encouraged people to buy the machine to enjoy the support mechanisms and policies of the province. It is expected that by the end of February 12, Yen Thanh will finish planting.

To ensure timely planting, planting in the right area, contributing to the highest efficiency in spring crop production, from the 4th day of Tet, all officers and employees of Bac Irrigation Company Limited - One Member Co., Ltd. have been deployed to serve production, operating electric pumps and self-flowing works, determined to ensure water for farmers to plant over 62,000 hectares of rice in 4 key districts of Yen Thanh, Do Luong, Quynh Luu, Dien Chau. For the planted areas, the company ensures the water retention level on the field surface of 2-3 cm so that farmers can prune in time and fertilize early so that the rice can quickly take root, recover green, and tiller smoothly.

This spring crop, our province planted over 88,000 hectares of rice, expanding the variety of rice with both high yield and good quality. Do not restructure the low yield varieties, heavily infected with pests and diseases such as IR1820, IR17497 (February 13),... into production. It is expected that by February 20, the whole province will finish planting. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development directs localities to have a plan for reasonable water distribution, thoroughly saving water. Develop a proactive plan to deal with areas with water difficulties (especially the end of the canal, semi-mountainous areas and mountainous areas). Operate the main sluice gates according to the approved process. For pumping stations in coastal areas and areas near the Lam River mouth, along the Cam River, Hoang Can Canal, and Bung River, water quality must be strictly checked before and during operation. Only operate the irrigation pump when the salinity concentration of the water source allows (for irrigation of rice from the tillering period onwards, the salinity must not exceed 1/1,000; For seedlings and young rice, the water must be completely sweet.
