(Baonghean.vn) -This afternoon, August 10, the Provincial People's Committee held a meeting to listen to and give opinions on the socio-economic development situation of the Western region in the first 7 months of the year, and the work of preparing to complete the socio-economic development project of this region before submitting it to the Prime Minister for approval. The meeting was chaired by Comrade Le Xuan Dai - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

7In the first months of 2012, the localities in Western Nghe An maintained stability and made progress: Food security continued to be ensured, the fields of agricultural production, forestry, transportation, culture, society, information and communication, construction industry received attention from all levels and sectors, national defense and security were maintained. Implementing the new rural construction program, 199/203 communes have approved plans, reaching 98% of the plan. Industrial production value increased by 9% over the same period. In the field of services and trade: the total circulation of goods and service revenue in the whole region is estimated to increase by 25%. The total mobilized capital in the first 6 months in the area reached more than 5,130 billion VND, an increase of 7% over the same period.

However, due to complex terrain and harsh weather, the economic growth rate of the Western districts remains low. The lives of a segment of the population still face many difficulties. The situation of livestock diseases, illegal exploitation of forest products, minerals, drug crimes, etc. is complicated.

At the meeting, representatives from various sectors gave their opinions on the socio-economic development situation in the Western region and contributed their opinions on the proposal to the Government to approve the socio-economic development project in the Western Nghe An region for the 2011-2015 period, with a view to 2020. They basically agreed on the general goal of soon bringing the Western region out of poverty and underdevelopment; improving the material and spiritual life of the people, especially those in ethnic minority areas, remote and border areas; preserving and promoting national cultural identity, repelling social evils, stabilizing politics and protecting a sustainable ecological environment. Striving to bring the economic growth rate in the 2011-2015 period to 12-13%, in the 2016-2020 period to 11-12%, with average income per capita reaching about 25 to 26 million VND in 2015.

Concluding the meeting, comrade Le Xuan Dai acknowledged the practical, specific and responsible contributions of the departments and branches and requested the drafting committee to pay attention to reviewing and supplementing to complete the project as soon as possible for submission to the Prime Minister for approval.
