(Baonghean) -The self-flowing clean water supply works are damaged and cannot be used. The dug wells have no water, and ethnic people lack water for daily use. That is the reality at the resettlement area of Hua Na Hydropower Plant in Pieng Cu 1 village, Tien Phong commune (Que Phong).

In October 2010, the people of Nong Danh village, Dong Van commune, moved to a new residence in the Pieng Cu 1 resettlement area. This is the first village to be relocated from the Hua Na Hydropower reservoir. In the new village, there is a self-flowing water supply project that takes water from Nhot Nien stream to 6 community water tanks located in the residential area of the village. This project provides clean water for 72 households (including 290 people), but after nearly 7 months of use, the self-flowing water project stopped working. The reason is that the pipeline system was damaged and broken due to floods. Mr. Ha Van Phong - Head of Pieng Cu 1 village said: "The water pipeline system is nearly 7 km long and is located in dangerous and damaged terrain, but there is no funding for repairs, so the villagers have no water to use. In that situation, the Hua Na Hydropower Project Management Board invested in digging wells for the villagers."

Water supply works in Pieng Cu are unusable.

Due to the high mountainous area, the work of digging wells encountered many difficulties and although surveys and explorations were organized, in Pieng Cu 1 village, out of 9 community clean water wells, only 4 wells had water for use. Lacking water for daily life, in the dry season, people had to go far to get water. Mr. Vi Thanh Chuong - a resident of Pieng Cu village said: "Due to the lack of clean water, we had to go to Xop Khan stream to bathe, wash clothes and get water for daily life. In the village, people were provided with plastic water tanks, but there was not much water for long-term use. People really wanted to restore the water source from the self-flowing water supply project because the water was clean and stable." It is known that Nhot Nien stream is the only water source serving the self-flowing water supply project of the Pieng Cu 1 and Pieng Cu 2 resettlement areas. Pieng Cu village has repeatedly reported the damaged state of the self-flowing water supply project to the district and the Hua Na Hydropower Project Management Board, but there has been no response.

There is a clean water supply project, but people still lack water for daily use. When will this problem in Pieng Cu be resolved? And the answer to this question depends entirely on the Hua Na Hydropower Project Management Board. To avoid the above situation, when the project is completed, the investor needs to establish a management team to effectively exploit and operate the water supply project and supplement the funding for repairs when damaged...
