On May 5, in the capital Mogadishu of Somalia, a suicide car bomb targeted a government convoy, killing at least 11 people and injuring many others.

Somali security officials said the bomb exploded near a police station as a convoy carrying government officials passed through the K4 commercial and administrative centre in the capital Mogadishu.

All government officials present in the convoy were safe after the attack.

Meanwhile, Reuters news agency quoted a security source as saying that the convoy belonged to the Somali Interior Ministry and at the time of the attack was carrying a number of Qatari officials.

No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the bloody attack, but it is likely the perpetrator was the Shebab rebel group with ties to the al-Qaeda terrorist network.

The Shebab militant group has vowed to overthrow the government and frequently carries out attacks on military forces and international peacekeeping missions in Somalia.

The group held much of the capital Mogadishu until it was driven out of the city in August 2011 and is now holed up in the mountains of northern Somalia.

About half a month earlier, the capital Mogadishu also witnessed suicide bombings and tragic attacks, taking the lives of 34 civilians.

In this incident, nine Shebab gunmen attacked the court complex in Mogadishu, of which six detonated explosives and the remaining three opened fire. 34 civilians were killed and 58 injured in this attack./.
