(Baonghean)This afternoon, December 17th, the 2011 National Super Cup match between SLNA and Navibank Saigon will take place at Vinh Stadium.

Attending and encouraging the players were the President of the Vietnam Football Federation - Nguyen Trong Hy, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper Doan Cong Huynh (co-chairman of the organizing committee of the 2011 National Super Cup), and from the leadership of Nghe An province: Nguyen Xuan Duong - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with leaders of departments and agencies and thousands of supporters.

The National Super Cup is a match between the reigning national champion (V.League) and the winner of the annual National Cup. It was initiated by Tien Phong Newspaper and included in the annual national competition program for the first time in 1999 by the Vietnam Football Federation, and is now in its 13th year.

Following the opening remarks by the Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation and leaders of Nghe An province went down to the field to present flowers and encourage the players of both teams.

After the opening whistle, both teams entered the match with high determination, but it wasn't until the 53rd minute that SLNA scored the opening goal through Hong Viet. In the 63rd minute, Navibank Saigon unexpectedly equalized through Duoc Em after a hesitant clearance by goalkeeper Viet Nam. Besides the two goals scored, players from both teams also missed several unfortunate scoring opportunities.

After 90 minutes of exciting and captivating play, the two teams drew 1-1. SLNA and Navibank Saigon had to go to a penalty shootout to determine the winner. With outstanding composure, the SLNA players won 3-1 on penalties, thus claiming the 2011 National Super Cup, much to the overwhelming joy of the numerous Nghe An fans present at Vinh Stadium. This also marks the fourth time SLNA has won the National Super Cup.

At the end of the match, the Organizing Committee awarded the Cup, Gold Medals, and a prize of 200 million VND to SLNA; Navibank.Saigon received the Silver Medal and 100 million VND. Hong Viet (SLNA) received the award for scoring the first goal of the match, and Vincent (Navibank.Saigon) received the award for best player of the match.
