Earlier, in the evening of July 11, two groups of eight tourists were hugging lifebuoys while swimming in Hai Hoa when a large wave hit and swept them hundreds of meters away from shore, making it impossible to swim back.Rescuers and local people tried to find a way to save the tourists, but due to big waves and strong winds, they could not reach them.
Thanh Hoa Fire Prevention and Fighting Police then mobilized forces and vehicles to rescue. After about 30 minutes, the rescue police reached the first group of tourists clinging to a buoy and brought three people to shore safely, while Mr. Hoang was exhausted and swept away by the waves and went missing.
At the same time, the remaining group of tourists were also struggling to hold on to the same buoy in a dangerous situation. Sergeant Tran The Hung (Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department No. 2) swam out, gave up his life jacket and successfully saved all four people.
With no life jacket on him and after many efforts to help the victims, Sergeant Hung was exhausted, but was promptly rescued by his teammates and brought to shore.
Sergeant Hung is currently being treated at Tinh Gia District General Hospital in poor health condition.
