Mai Giang River pollution affects people's aquaculture environment

(Baonghean.vn)- Voters in Quynh Luu district reported that the environment of Mai Giang river passing through Quynh Bang commune is seriously polluted, affecting the aquaculture environment and domestic water of people in 7 hamlets (Quynh Bang commune). They requested the Provincial People's Committee to take measures to handle the above situation.

The relevant authorities responded to this issue as follows:

In order to resolve voters' petitions, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to conduct field inspections and record feedback from local people and authorities. The results of environmental sample analysis show that the pollution situation reported by voters and people of Quynh Bang commune is correct.

The cause is due to the infrastructure for collecting and treating waste, wastewater and the poor awareness of some residents, especially the phenomenon of people discharging untreated wastewater, throwing household waste, dead animals directly into rivers and canals, affecting aquaculture as well as domestic water sources. Specifically: Every time the water comes to serve production and daily life according to the schedule (10 days a session), a large amount of waste, packaging, dead livestock and poultry floats along, causing pollution, affecting the lives and activities of people, especially in Quynh Bang commune - the unit located at the end of the canal.

To deal with the above problem, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment has requested:

- People's Committee of Hoang Mai town, People's Committee of Quynh Luu district: Direct People's Committees of communes along the river and irrigation canals to propagate environmental protection awareness to people in the area, especially take measures to inform and propagate, instruct farmers to collect and treat agricultural by-products after harvest, avoid leaving and dispersing organic substances that pollute the environment. Strengthen solutions to collect and treat wastewater and solid waste of people along both banks of the canal and Mai Giang river, do not let people throw household waste, discharge untreated wastewater into the river and canal. Review sources of discharge into Mai Giang river, urge production and business establishments that discharge waste into the river to strengthen environmental protection, absolutely do not discharge waste into water sources that do not meet permitted standards.

- For Bac Nghe An Irrigation Company Limited: Strengthen inspection, coordinate with local authorities where N28 canal passes through, overcome pollution problems, littering by people. When detecting violations, proactively coordinate with local authorities to handle promptly, and regularly organize dredging of garbage congestion points on N28 canal before and during water intake time.
