Vietnam's Su-30MK2 increases combat capabilities

With two jet engines, a wingspan of 2.8 m, and a body length of 2.5 m, the UAV-02 has the following design features: Cruise speed from 250 to 350 km/h, operating radius of 100 km, maximum flying altitude of 8,000 m; the aircraft weighs 38 kg when fully fueled with a maximum operating time of 45 minutes.

UAV-02 can fly completely automatically according to the commander's preset program. With the above mentioned combat-technical features, UAV-02 is completely suitable and basically meets the requirements in the training work of the Air Defense - Air Force Service today.

To demonstrate its capabilities, UAV-02 recently took off for a test flight at Tho Xuan airport in a coordinated flight with Su-30MK2 aircraft of Regiment 923, Air Division 371.

Right on the first flight, the electronic equipment of the Navigation-Sighting Complex and missiles on the Su-30MK2 aircraft detected and tracked the UAV-02 target.

With a speed of approximately 300km/h and a flight altitude of more than 1000 meters, UAV-02 basically achieved the requirements set out in the flight plan requested by the flight commander before the flight.

In particular, the trajectory error is no more than 15 meters in strong wind conditions, which proves that the automatic flight control device according to the program (Autopilot) manufactured by the PK-KQ Technical Institute has achieved the world's military standards for UAVs. After completing the mission, UAV-02 landed safely, ready for the next test flights.

The successful development of UAV-02 using high-speed jet engine has marked a remarkable development in the process of mastering science and technology of the officers and engineers of the Air Defense - Air Force Technical Institute. That also affirms the initiative, self-reliance and self-reliance in manufacturing products serving the training work of the Service and the Army.

The estimated production cost of a UAV-02 is more than two billion VND (approximately 120,000 USD), much cheaper than the import price of 600,000 to 800,000 USD. Mastering advanced technologies in UAV manufacturing will not depend on foreign countries for technology transfer, significantly reducing costs and ensuring secrecy in military products;support combat capabilities for modern aircraft such as the Su-30MK2.
