(Baonghean) -In recent years, people in 6 villages of Chi Khe commune (Con Cuong district) including: Nam Dinh, Lien Dinh, Trung Dinh, Son Khe, Tong Chai and Bai Van have invested in installing valves and water pipes from the main pipeline of the natural water source to bring domestic water to their homes. People also contribute 10,000 VND/month per household to send someone to manage the project from the source to the village...

Bring water to households in Nam Dinh village.

Coming to the residential areas of the 6 villages mentioned above, it is easy to see that every house has a domestic water supply system installed right into the garden. Unlike other highland areas, where people have to use buckets, cans, basins to carry water to the communal water tanks to use at home, here people just need to go down the stairs to get water. Therefore, the communal water tanks in the 6 villages mentioned above, which were invested by the State with funds from Program 134 7 years ago, are now only occasionally used by people, although they are still in good use.

Mr. Lu Van Tam - Head of Nam Dinh village, said: The village has 117 households, the State invested in building a self-flowing domestic water project in 2007, with 9 community water tanks. At each water tank, there are installed on-off valves, yards, bathrooms... However, during use, due to the poor awareness of some people about protecting the project, some equipment is damaged, moreover, at the water tanks, there is no drainage system, so wastewater stagnates, causing public hygiene. Especially, in the hot season, people after work flock to the water tanks to bathe, wash, wash... leading to a situation of fighting and jostling each other. This situation continues year after year without any solution.

In village meetings, many opinions were given, one way or another, but they were still ineffective. In 2010, from a local opinion, households should invest in installing a water supply system to each house, then the above situations would be overcome. The method was for each household to invest in buying valves, water pipes, water tanks... to install from the main water pipe into the house. With the consensus of the whole village, the Commune People's Council agreed, in just 2 months of 2011, nearly 100% of households installed a water supply system to their houses. Depending on the actual situation of each household to invest, the least invested household 300 thousand VND, the most invested household 1 million VND.

Mrs. Lo Thi Tham, a resident of Nam Dinh village, happily said: Before, every time we bathed and washed, we had to go to the communal water tank, use a bucket to carry water to wash vegetables, cook rice, and when it rained, it was very difficult for the elderly. Now that water is delivered to our homes, we can use it more comfortably and conveniently. My family bought a tank that is always full of water. During peak hours, every house uses water, leading to a weak water flow, so we have to scoop water from the tank to use. Not only for bathing and washing, the family also uses the water to water the vegetable garden, which is very convenient.

Mr. Lo Van Vinh - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chi Khe commune, said: The 6 villages mentioned above have 415 households, originating from the idea of the people. In August 2010, the People's Council of the commune issued a resolution approving the management and use of the self-flowing water system to households. In August 2011, the villages began to install, and to date, 403/415 households have installed the water system to their households. The commune has contracted with 2 local people who are responsible for managing the water system to ensure it is always running smoothly so that people have water for daily use. Each household contributes 10,000 VND/month, part of which is to pay monthly salaries for these 2 people, and part is for repairs when the water system is damaged. However, for households with elderly grandparents, especially those in difficult circumstances, this amount is exempted. Seeing the good practice of the 6 villages, last year Chan Nan village also proposed to the commune to follow suit. The Commune People's Council has agreed, and currently the villagers are installing a water supply system to their homes to effectively use the self-flowing water project.

Using natural water sources like the villages of Chi Khe commune is not costly, but highly effective. Some people think that the State should invest in building natural water systems for people in the highlands, and apply this method. If so, the construction of community water tanks should be used to support people in installing water supply systems to their homes...
