"The US reflexively supports Israel, but this will create much greater anti-American sentiment in the Middle East and throughout the Muslim world," said Chas Freeman. At the same time, Mr. Freeman noted that the crisis is unlikely to be limited to Israel and the Gaza Strip, but will "metastasize" to neighboring countries. "Geopolitical threats could quickly spread to Lebanon and Syria," he stressed. Mr. Freeman added that the Israeli-American pipe dream of normalizing relations with Saudi Arabia would also vanish in the near future. The former US diplomat said that the Biden administration seemed caught off guard by Hamas' sudden and successful attack.
In a related development, the press agency of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the first US plane carrying ammunition for the Israeli armed forces arrived in the country in the early morning of October 11.
“The first plane loaded with American ammunition has landed in Israel. The plane carrying advanced ammunition landed at Nevatim Air Base tonight. These weapons are intended for carrying out major strikes and preparing for further situations,” the IDF press service said.
The Israeli military thanked the US for its support. “Our common enemies know that cooperation between our two militaries is stronger than ever and is a key factor in ensuring security and stability in the region,” the statement said.
