9/11 - 10 years later, the world is still insecure

September 11, 2011 16:43

Terrorism has spread to almost all regions of the world, sowing anxiety among all mankind with bloody attacks...

On September 11, the United States commemorated the horrific event exactly 10 years ago, when terrorists destroyed the two towers of the World Trade Center, attacked the Pentagon and killed thousands of Americans. This attack created profound changes in the heart of the United States and the world situation.

Ten years after 9/11, the world has witnessed failures in counter-terrorism strategies, the decline of Washington's superpower role, and the shifting balance of power globally.

8:46 a.m., September 11, 2001, New York: A plane crashes into the north tower of the Twin Towers. About 18 minutes later, a second plane crashes into the south tower. 9:37 a.m. - Another plane crashes into the Pentagon and a fourth crashes into a field in Pennsylvania. None of the passengers on the four planes survived. The hijackers turned the planes into the largest suicide bombs in history.

Images that seem to only exist in movies.

Nearly 3,000 people died and more than 6,000 were injured. The series of tragic terrorist attacks not only shocked the world but also hurt America, which has always been proud of its potential and strength as a superpower. The 9/11 event showed the brutality and danger of terrorism, but also raised thoughtful questions for America, especially the way this country behaves with the world, especially the Muslim world.

Ten years after 9/11, America has changed and so has the world. America has gone through a decade of hardship because of the so-called “war on terror”. While not completing the “special mission” in Afghanistan, America rushed into the Iraq war with fabricated evidence of Saddam Hussein’s government’s weapons of mass destruction and vague assumptions.

In the name of fighting terrorism, over the past 10 years, tens of billions of dollars have been burned on the battlefield, thousands of American and allied soldiers have been killed, but Afghanistan and Iraq are not only unstable but also become the cradle for al-Qaeda recruitment. This war has also claimed hundreds of thousands of civilian lives in the countries attacked by the US and its allies.

Even though terrorist leader Bin Laden was killed in Pakistan, from the United States, over the past 10 years, terrorism has spread to almost every region of the world, causing anxiety for all of humanity with bloody attacks, mainly targeting civilians.

Unable to find reconciliation, the United States has deepened its deep disagreements with the Muslim world by brutally imposing its “American standards.” The Muslim world also sees the United States through the prism of a belligerent, intolerant country that is gradually slipping into the role of a superpower.

Less than a week before the 10th anniversary of 9/11, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta asserted that the international terrorist network al-Qaeda has weakened. But in fact, terrorism has mutated. Instead of a direct attack, it has transformed into a more dangerous virus as it infiltrates every corner of the world, waiting for an opportunity.

For the world, the 9/11 event has created and is creating an important shift in the balance of power on a global scale. The United States has shown that it cannot and will not be the “conductor” in the “anti-terrorism and peace-building music for the world”.

Thousands of US troops are drawn into the war on terror.

Polarization is taking place strongly around the world. The world political stage seems to be shifting from the US and EU to Asia, from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Peace, stability, prosperity and the fight against terrorism cannot rely on the US alone, but require the role of many other countries, including developing countries.

There is one thing that is obvious to everyone but very difficult to do: to eradicate terrorism, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation, dialogue, build trust between countries, ethnic groups, and religions, narrow the development gap, eliminate all oppression and injustice, and move towards a harmonious world.

It is a big dream that the whole world needs to work together to make come true.
