After a night of intensive investigation, using sharp professional measures, Anh Son District Police coordinated with Thach Son Commune Police to investigate and arrest the suspects and the evidence. It is worth mentioning that the 3 suspects who stole the priest's money were all under 18 years old, one of whom had a previous conviction for theft.

Previously, at around 10 p.m. on May 8, Anh Son District Police received a report: A thief broke into the office of a priest of Lang Dien Parish, Thach Son Commune (Anh Son) and stole a briefcase containing 112,116,000 VND and 2 mobile phones.

Considering that this was a theft of property with a large amount of money, and occurred at a time when the entire district police force was implementing a plan to fight and suppress all types of crimes to ensure security and order before, during and after the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 term, the leaders of Anh Son district police held a "hot" meeting, directing the General Investigation Police Team and the Commune Police Team in charge of security and order to urgently be present at the scene, conduct verification, investigation, clarify and arrest the perpetrator.

Present at Lang Dien parish, parish priest Nguyen Ngoc Giao added: Before the incident, the priest was celebrating mass at the parish church. At about 9:30 p.m. the same day, after finishing mass, the priest returned to his room and discovered that the briefcase containing 112,116,000 VND and 2 phones on the desk had "disappeared".

The entire amount of money was contributed by parishioners in the parish to renovate the church. Therefore, it is likely that the perpetrator of the above theft is a child of the parish. Under the direction of the district police, the working group coordinated with the local government and the Thach Son Commune Police Department to discuss and agree on a plan to investigate and arrest the suspect.

Immediately after that, the subjects with criminal records for property theft as well as vagrant and unemployed people in the area were put on the suspect list by the working group and the Commune Police Department and investigated and reviewed. Among the subjects reviewed, the working group found Hoang Khac Sang residing in Hamlet 7, Thach Son Commune.

After carefully studying Sang's personal background, it was known that Sang was a parishioner, living near the parish church. Recently, Sang often went out early and came home late, and had relationships with many complicated elements in society. In particular, there was one detail that caught the attention of the detectives: at the time the priest was performing mass at the church, Sang was not present in the area.

With the collected documents and evidence, the working group confirmed that in the above mentioned theft, there were at least 2 subjects involved, most likely Hoang Khac Sang. After agreeing on a plan to capture the perpetrator of the theft of property of the priest of Lang Dien parish, the detectives coordinated with the Commune Police Department to conduct a "hot" investigation and search for Hoang Khac Sang.

At 11 p.m. the same day (May 8), the working group of the District Police and the Thach Son Commune Police discovered a strange subject appearing in the area of Lang Dien parish church with suspicious signs. Immediately after that, the subject was taken to the headquarters of the Thach Son Commune People's Committee for questioning. Here, the subject declared his name as Tran Van Ta, residing in block 1A, Anh Son town, Anh Son district.

That same night, the detectives verified Tran Van Ta's identity, and learned that Ta had a criminal record for theft. He also frequently socialized with many complex elements, involved in social evils such as gambling, theft, drug addiction, etc. Through investigation and verification, it was confirmed that Ta and Sang were the two subjects who committed the theft of the parish priest's money. The task force focused on fighting Tran Van Ta. Initially, Ta denied the crime.

However, in the face of the sharp arguments of the detectives, Tran Van Ta confessed that he, Hoang Khac Sang (born 2001), residing in Hamlet 7, Thach Son Commune, and Vo Van Manh, residing in Hamlet 1B, Anh Son Town, Anh Son District, were the perpetrators of the theft of property from the priest of Lang Dien Parish. Immediately after that, Tran Van Ta was taken to the District Police Department to assist in the investigation. At the same time, the detectives arrested Sang and Manh.

After 5 hours of intense searching, at 4:00 a.m. on May 9, 2016, Anh Son District Police and Thach Son Commune Police arrested two subjects, Hoang Khac Sang and Vo Van Manh, while they were renting a taxi to escape the area; confiscated on the spot the parish priest's briefcase, inside which were 112,116,000 VND and 2 mobile phones.

At the investigation agency, the subjects stated: After knowing that parishioners in Lang Dien parish contributed a large amount of money to renovate the church, Sang had the idea of stealing it to spend. Accordingly, Sang went to meet Manh and Ta, discussed the plan, then lay in wait, waiting for an opportunity to break into the priest's room to steal all the money. On the night of May 8, knowing that the priest would come to the church to perform mass, Sang, Tu and Manh were present in the Lang Dien parish area, waiting for the opportunity to act.

According to the plan, Ta stood outside to act as a lookout, while Sang and Manh broke into the priest's room to steal property. When priest Nguyen Ngoc Giao went to church to perform mass, Manh and Sang quickly sneaked into the room and searched for property. Discovering the priest's briefcase on the desk, they opened it, found a large amount of money and 2 cell phones, so they quickly "snatch" them and left the scene. After that, the subjects agreed to take all the money to Vinh City to spend.

Before leaving, Ta had the task of returning to the church to inquire about the incident and find a way to deal with the authorities. However, as soon as he appeared, he was discovered by the Anh Son District Police and taken to the headquarters for investigation and clarification.

Through extensive investigation, the Investigation Police Department of Anh Son District Police clarified that before committing the theft at Lang Dien Parish, Hoang Khac Sang also “stole” a Wave motorbike with license plate 37M1-145.67 worth 18 million VND from a resident in Village 7, Khai Son Commune, Anh Son District. That same night, the District Police verified and recovered the motorbike to serve the investigation.

After arresting the above subjects for property theft, recently, the District Police Department returned the stolen property on the night of May 8 to Father Nguyen Ngoc Giao of Lang Dien Parish. Upon receiving the property, Father Nguyen Ngoc Giao expressed his gratitude for the spirit of wholehearted service to the people of Anh Son District Police and Thach Son Commune Police Department.

With effective coordination during the peak period of attacking and suppressing crimes, ensuring security and order to serve the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 term, including active participation in the investigation and arrest of the group of subjects who stole property from the priest of Lang Dien parish, the Thach Son Commune Police Department was commended by the Anh Son District Police.
