Shocked with fish with 'human teeth' in America

Juan Gallo in San Francisco Bay caught a fish with a strange shape that was unlike anything he had ever seen before.

When Juan Gallo fished the fish from a small pond in Lucchesi Park in Petaluma, California, it chewed through the sturdy fishing line.

“It didn't look like any fish I'd ever seen before,” Gallo said.

It is known that this is a Pacu fish, a relative of the "killer" Piranha fish, originating from the Amazon region. The cold water of Northern California is completely unsuitable for Pacu's living habits, but many pet stores here still secretly import them even though the trade of this type of wild animal is illegal.

Pacu are also carnivorous fish. They can mistake a man’s testicles for a favorite nut and will not hesitate to attack. There have been several cases of men being injured by Pacu around the Amazon.

According to aquatic expert Matthew Gimlem, the fish was probably released by the buyer because they could no longer care for it. Pacu are still alive in California, but they usually die in winter.

Gallo said he would take the fish to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). If they don't take it, he'll take it home and have it stuffed.

CDFW has advised against releasing Pacu if they are caught in the lake. Instead, they should freeze the fish and contact local authorities.
