Volcano collapses in Hawaii, lava shoots 20 meters high

A geological vent has opened on one of the world's most active volcanoes in Hawaii, sending lava shooting up to 20 metres above the crater's rim.

Geologists monitoring the Kilauea volcano said on March 6 that lava had appeared and shot into the air from a crack that appeared after the Kilauea volcano's crater.

The site of the geological fault is located in the center of the fault zone on the east side of the volcano, about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Pu'u O'o.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, Kilauea volcano has been active again since January 3, 1983 until now.

Scientists say lava erupting from a geological fissure at the Kilauea volcano appeared in large quantities on Saturday (March 5) and gradually decreased yesterday (March 6).

In the past 24 hours, there have been about 150 aftershocks of varying magnitude recorded around the volcano.
