The pro-Syrian government al-Ekhbaria and Sham FM channels reported that on the evening of March 21, a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the al-Eman mosque in the capital Damascus, killing 18 worshippers and injuring many others.

Prominent Syrian Muslim cleric Mohammad Saed Ramadan al-Bouti was also killed in the blast.

The bomber detonated his explosives as worshippers were about to hear a sermon by Shia cleric Saed Ramadan al-Bouti, known for his anti-terrorism sermons and criticism of the extremist actions of Syrian rebels.

Recently, a wave of attacks targeting pro-government figures has become increasingly common in the context of the two-year-long crisis in Syria that has turned into a civil war, especially with the increasing appearance of radical Islamic jihadists./.
