Why can't Trump stop Nord Stream 2?
The United States has long done everything possible to prevent the construction of a gas pipeline between Russia and Germany, but even the most practical tools of leader Donald Trump do not guarantee Washington's achievement of this goal.

The World Gas Conference held in Washington last week raised the question of how far the unpredictable US President could go to stop the project from being implemented. Die Welt points out that Trump's foreign policy in the energy sector has so far not "borne fruit".
Trump's last chance may be the imposition of economic sanctions against five Western energy companies that have a stake in the "Gazprom" project, Die Welt edition suggests.
"The project is guaranteed to receive financing. It is important for Gazprom and Russia's liquidity in euros is currently high. Economic sanctions against Russia may lead to the fact that there will be more options for financing Nord Stream 2," said Paul Corcoran, the project's financial director.
