According to District 2 Police, the driver's name was Duong Quy (30 years old, living in Dong Nai province).
Previously, at around 11:00 a.m. on October 26, driver Quy drove a tractor with license plate 60C-368.06 towing a trailer with license plate 60R-02502 on Vo Chi Cong Street from Phu My Bridge to District 9.
When arriving at the intersection of Nguyen Thi Dinh - Vo Chi Cong (My Thuy roundabout, Thanh My Loi ward, District 2), there was a collision with a motorbike driven by Mr. Le Xuan Thin (68 years old, residing in Thanh Hoa province) going in the same direction. When the authorities arrived at the scene, Mr. Thin was dead.
According to the initial statement of driver Quy, when the accident happened, driver Quy opened the cockpit, got out of the car and ran away from the scene. However, some security guards of a nearby construction site held the driver back. They asked driver Quy to move the car to pull Mr. Thin out, because Mr. Thin was still stuck under the tractor.
At this time, driver Quy got back in the car but because he was "flustered", he drove the trailer back and forth. Hearing people screaming, driver Quy opened the door of the cab and jumped onto the road to flee the scene. Driver Quy went to the Cat Lai Traffic Police team to surrender and the Cat Lai Traffic Police team handed him over to District 2 Police.
According to District 2 Police, through extracting camera images, it is known that after the collision, Mr. Thin was still stuck under the tractor trailer. Driver Quy got out of the car and left the scene, then driver Quy returned to drive the car back and forth, then got out of the car again and left the scene.
The case is currently being further investigated by District 2 Police. According to District 2 Police, through the media, people who are witnesses to the incident, please contact District 2 Police for further information.
