Driver detained for 2 months for falling asleep and causing passenger bus to overturn
Nguyen Van Canh was prosecuted and detained for two months after falling asleep while driving a passenger car and causing a serious accident.
On the morning of December 5, Mr. Tran Dinh Thong, Deputy Chief of Nghi Loc District Police (Nghe An) said that today the investigation agency prosecuted and detained Nguyen Van Canh (30 years old, residing in Hau Loc, Thanh Hoa) for two months for violating traffic regulations causing serious consequences.

The investigation agency determined that on the morning of November 29, Nguyen Van Canh was driving a passenger bus with a Lang Son license plate, carrying 33 people, from Lang Son to Nghe An. When reaching the Vinh city bypass in Nghi Loc district, Canh fell asleep, causing the car to lose control and veer to the left of the road, breaking a traffic cone. The car continued to travel another 30 meters, bursting its left rear tire before flipping over in a muddy field. The accident left one person dead and 19 injured.
After the accident, Canh turned himself in to the police and confessed that the cause of the loss of control was because he fell asleep. Nghe An authorities set up a board to examine the scene and the car. The conclusion showed that the car did not collide with any obstacles or other vehicles before losing control and that there was no technical error.
On the morning of December 5, Dr. Nguyen Van Hung, Nghe An 115 Hospital, said that the last 5 victims of the accident had been discharged from the hospital and returned home.

Regarding the accident, the People's Committee of Lang Son province said that it has stopped all transportation business vehicles of Son Duc Automobile Transport Joint Venture Company, the owner of the vehicle involved in the accident, since December 1. This unit will be inspected for its conditions for automobile transportation business according to regulations; comprehensively inspect the implementation of legal regulations, especially on traffic safety and driver management.
