Criminal detention of the subject who used a knife to attack and injure many people at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital
Nghe An Provincial Police Investigation Agency has decided to temporarily detain Ban Van Vy (born 1996), residing in Luc Son commune, Bac Ninh province, to investigate and clarify the act of murder.

Previously, Nghe An Newspaper, Radio and Television reported: At around 10:00 a.m. on October 23, at the Neonatal Department, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Ban Van Vy suddenly used a knife to attack many people present in the hospital room, including medical staff and patients' relatives. When the subject grabbed a newborn baby with the intention of throwing it out the window, nurse Tran Thi Hong bravely rushed in to retrieve the baby and protect the child's safety.
During the process of stopping the subject, nurse Nguyen Thuy Trang and several other medical staff tried to intervene and protect the patient and colleagues. However, many people were injured, among them Ms. Trang was the most seriously injured. Thanks to the timely coordination of the security force and the police, the subject was controlled after a few minutes.

At the police station, Ban Van Vy confessed to his crime. Accordingly, after getting married, Vy and Ms. LTK (born in 1999, residing in Que Phong commune, Nghe An province) lived in Bac Ninh. Recently, because she was pregnant with twins, Ms. K. returned to her hometown (Que Phong commune) to live.
On October 13, 2025, Vy returned to his wife's hometown from Bac Ninh to take care of her. On October 17, 2025, Vy took his wife to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital to have a cesarean section to give birth to twins. During the monitoring process at the hospital, one of the two babies was in poor health and had to be treated intensively. Believing that his child was not receiving proper attention from the hospital, and suspecting that the baby had been switched, Vy became upset and lost control. On the morning of October 23, 2025, due to being too worried and confused when seeing his child in poor health, combined with his unstable mentality after many days of staying up all night to take care of his child, Vy had impulsive and uncontrolled behavior.
Specifically, at around 9:30 a.m. the same day, Vy used a knife to injure two other patients' family members (including: Ms. Ngo Thi Thu Thuy (born in 1974), residing in Dien Chau commune, Nghe An province; Ms. Phan Thi Tu (born in 1962), residing in Duc Thinh commune, Ha Tinh province) and three medical staff (including: Ms. Nguyen Thuy Trang (born in 1987), residing in Vinh Phu ward, Nghe An province; Nguyen Thi Nhung (born in 1994), residing in Bach Ngoc commune, Nghe An province and Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hoai (born in 1995), residing in Truong Vinh ward, Nghe An province). As a result, five people were injured, currently being treated at Nghe An General Hospital, of which Ms. Nguyen Thuy Trang was the most seriously injured.

Ban Van Vy's behavior was determined to be hooligan, aggressive, and disregarding the lives and health of others, causing especially serious consequences, causing panic among the patient's family and medical staff, requiring emergency treatment.
Local verification showed that the subject mainly lived in Bac Ninh, occasionally returning to his wife's hometown in Que Phong commune; he had no criminal record. At the time of arrest, the subject tested negative for drugs and through initial verification, the subject was not under treatment for mental illness.
Currently, the case is being further investigated and handled by the Criminal Police Department according to the provisions of law.
