(Baonghean.vn) -On the night of December 18, 2012, after receiving bad weather news due to a cold front, while fishing far from shore with a purse seine, Mr. Tran Van Dinh decided to turn the boat back. When about 10 nautical miles from shore, the boat was hit by strong water, unable to be repaired, the crew swam to shore...

At around 3-4 am on December 19, 2012, a fishing boat operated by Mr. Tran Van Dinh (born in 1978, in Thanh Cong hamlet, Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu) approached the coast of Quynh Nghia commune, Quynh Luu, Nghe An. There were 14 people on the boat, of which only 6 were able to swim to shore to call for help. The machinery on the boat was unusable because the generator was submerged in seawater. When they reached shore, the 6 crew members went to the house of Mr. Ho Khanh (50 years old, living in village 3, Quynh Nghia commune, Quynh Luu) and his son to ask for help bringing the remaining crew members ashore.

Mr. Ho Khanh and the boat owner in distress

Mr. Khanh and his son have been working at sea for a long time, only having a bamboo boat with a small engine to exploit the shore. Regardless of the wind and waves, the cold night, Mr. Khanh and his son took their bamboo boat out to rescue people. On the first trip, Mr. Khanh was able to bring 4 people to shore, but on the second trip, due to the big waves and strong winds, he had to struggle to save people from the big boat at night, so Mr. Khanh's boat was also sunk by the waves. The situation became more difficult, but Mr. Khanh and his son still tried their best to save everyone and get to shore safely.

Although there were no casualties, the property damage was enormous. Mr. Tran Van Dinh’s boat alone was worth 2.2 billion VND, and Mr. Ho Khanh’s rescue boat was worth about 20 million VND. Both boats are now completely damaged.

It is known that Mr. Ho Khanh and his son have rescued many ships in danger off the coast of Quynh Nghia many times over the years and have saved many crew members to safety. Mr. Ho Khanh and his son are shining examples of humanity in our society.

Mr. Khanh, Mr. Dinh and the boat in distress

Mr. Ho Dinh Xich - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Nghia - Quynh Luu commune, said: After receiving news of the accident at sea, the People's Committee of Quynh Nghia commune sent officers and security forces to the scene to help bring the victims safely to shore.

I hope that authorities, sectors, and philanthropists will help people like Mr. Khanh and fishermen in distress to quickly overcome the damage to restore production and stabilize their lives.
