The heart of a teacher in the highlands
(Baonghean) -In August 2000, young student Vu Thi Tu left her hometown Quynh Hong (Quynh Luu) to go to the mountainous district of Quy Chau to teach. During her time working, Ms. Tu realized that students in the highlands still had many disadvantages in terms of economic conditions, study and living. As a young party member, when studying the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, teacher Vu Thi Tu always thought that she had to do something to help students in the highlands.
Study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh through specific daily actions, suitable to your conditions and abilities. In the 2010-2011 school year, Ms. Tu was assigned to be the homeroom teacher of class 10C3 - a class with 100% of students from remote areas, with many difficult family circumstances. After a few weeks of school, class 10C3 student Vang Thi Hong Yen dropped out.
Yen is a Thai ethnic in Na Cong village, Chau Hoan commune, one of the farthest communes of Quy Chau district. Through research, the homeroom teacher Tu learned that Yen dropped out of school because her family was too poor. She met with her and her family, analyzed and encouraged the family to let her return to school; at the same time, she promised to help. Vu Thi Tu discussed her thoughts, concerns and aspirations with her husband - who is also a teacher at the school. Very excited to receive her husband's immediate support and encouragement, Tu proactively met the school's Board of Directors to report on Vang Thi Hong Yen's case and registered to adopt her, overcoming difficulties to continue studying. Since being taken care of by the homeroom teacher, Yen has been a good student and has made progress in her studies. In the first semester of grade 10, Yen was recognized as an excellent student of the school. After his daughter returned to school to study and make progress, Yen's father went to see the homeroom teacher to thank her, "I am very grateful to you". Next year in grade 11, Yen received a scholarship because of her good academic performance.
Currently, Yen is the core of the class in all activities. After teacher Tu gave birth to her second child, Yen moved to the school dormitory, but still receives the teacher's attentive care every day. In the past three years of school, Yen has always been an excellent student. When we met her, Yen told us about the days when she dropped out of school and returned to school with the care and love of teacher Tu's family as well as her friends and other teachers... she cried because she was touched and lucky. Vang Thi Hong Yen told us: "I will study well and get high results in exams to not let down my teacher..."
Another case, Vi Van Bang - Chau Phong commune, his parents divorced when he was young. After that, Bang followed his mother to live with his stepfather. Life was difficult when his mother gave birth, his family forced him to drop out of school. Bang realized that if he wanted to escape poverty, he had to study, to achieve his dream, he had to earn a living: both going to school and working part-time to have money to cover his study expenses. Difficulties piled up when he entered grade 10, not only had to pay for tuition, but also for food, accommodation, and transportation while there were not many part-time jobs, he decided to drop out of school, sell his bicycle to earn money to go to work far away, he could not let students like that drop out of school, teacher Vu Thi Tu advised him to stay at school to continue studying. She mobilized the help of the class, contributions from teachers and students in the school. The homeroom teacher took advantage of the valuable sharing of parents in class 10C3. Currently, Bang is being helped with his study and living expenses by a parent in Chau Binh commune.
In addition to taking care of Vang Thi Hong Yen or Vi Van Bang, teacher Vu Thi Tu also cares for other students in the class. Not only that, she also organizes activities to create good deeds to educate students about mutual love. Homeroom teacher Vu Thi Tu and the students of the class bought a piggy bank to raise savings to help students in difficult circumstances. Every week, teachers and students save together, depending on their conditions, 500 VND or a few thousand VND to "raise the pig", at the end of the month "slaughter the pig" to help poor and disadvantaged students. These activities not only help students in difficult circumstances, but also serve as moral lessons for them.
Principal Ho Thi Phuong Thao said: Ms. Vu Thi Tu is a typical example of "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh" of Quy Chau Ethnic Minority High School, attending and reporting at the commendation conference of Quy Chau District Party Committee. Currently, following the example of Ms. Vu Thi Tu, many teachers of Quy Chau Ethnic Minority High School have taken specific and practical actions.
