(Baonghean.vn) - In recent years, the scale of satellite schools in the province has been decreasing. However, this is still a suitable model for mountainous districts, helping students have more opportunities to go to school.

The satellite school in Xop Kho village (Nga My commune), Tuong Duong district, currently has only first and second graders. Each class at Xop Kho school has less than 10 students. The route from the main school to the satellite school is only about 7km, but the road is extremely difficult to travel, especially on muddy rainy days. Currently, the school's students are studying in an old, degraded classroom, a project funded about 20 years ago for disadvantaged students in mountainous districts. Photo: My Ha

Nga My Primary School is one of the schools located in a difficult area of Tuong Duong district. The school has 443 students, but only about half of them study at the main school. The rest are still studying at 5 satellite schools, the farthest of which is nearly 20km from the main school. There are schools with less than 10 students and have to maintain combined classes. According to teacher Kha Van Thong - Principal of the school: Since the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program, students from grade 3 and above at satellite schools will be transferred to the main school and stay at the boarding school. The rest, due to inadequate material conditions and difficult roads, have to maintain satellite schools. In addition to teachers in remote areas, the most difficult thing for satellite schools is the subject teachers because almost every day they have to cross mountains and hills to teach students subjects such as Fine Arts, Music, and Physical Education. Due to the small number of students, students at remote schools receive special attention from teachers. At the beginning of the school year, students' books and school supplies are carefully wrapped and labeled by teachers. Classrooms are decorated in a friendly manner, creating joy for students when coming to school. Every week, the school board will visit and inspect the organization of teaching and learning. What is special about Nga My Primary School is that although the school is currently lacking teachers, teachers at all schools volunteer to work overtime, ensuring that students have 32 lessons/week, giving them the opportunity to fully study the 2018 General Education Program. The satellite school in Tham Hin village of Nam Can Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Ky Son district, is also organized in a systematic manner. Currently, there are nearly 40 students of grades 1 and 2 studying here. This is a school with nearly 100% of students being Mong ethnic people. Photo: My Ha

Teacher Lo Thi Yen graduated from Vinh University and has been working at this school for 1 year. In the first days of taking on the job, she said she encountered many difficulties when more than half of the students in her class were not fluent in Vietnamese. In order to teach first graders, in addition to doing her professional duties well, teacher Lo Thi Yen also had to learn the Mong language to be able to understand and communicate with her students. After nearly 3 weeks of studying, her lessons have initially brought results, the students are excited and enthusiastic about coming to class. Photo: My Ha

According to teacher Lam Nguyen Ngoc - Principal of the school: The merger of satellite schools is a policy of the Education sector and is being vigorously implemented by localities. However, with the characteristics of mountainous districts, when roads are still difficult to travel, and the physical facilities at the main schools are not guaranteed, maintaining satellite schools will create opportunities for children in remote areas to go to school. From grade 3, all students at satellite schools will return to the main school and they will be able to stay at the school. Fortunately, parents are now aware of the benefits of going to school, so they support the school's policy. Photo: My Ha

Nghe An province currently has about 900 separate schools at all three levels, most of which are concentrated in preschool and primary schools. In areas far from the center, organizing teaching and boarding for students is still very difficult and lacking. For example, at Tham Hin preschool (Nam Can, Ky Son), to maintain boarding classes for children, the school implements a boarding model with teachers who both teach and cook for the students. The school only has 2 teachers, so the work is very hard. Photo: My Ha

After more than 20 years of working in the highlands, mainly at remote schools, teacher Le Thi Hai Ly shared: My greatest joy is seeing parents starting to care about their children's education. Therefore, it has become easier for us to mobilize children to go to school. At school, children can study and eat well, so they can develop comprehensively, minimizing malnutrition in children. The remote schools in the Western region of Nghe An are truly a second home. With a sense of responsibility and love for their students, teachers living in remote areas are making daily efforts to make every day at school a truly happy day for their students. Photo: My Ha
