A car loaded with explosives blew up a military post in the Dogubayazit district of Agri province, eastern Türkiye, bordering Iran, local officials said, according to the Antolia news agency.

Earlier, on August 1, a Turkish soldier was killed in a landmine explosion in the town of Kagizman, Kars province, eastern Turkey. This mine explosion is also suspected to have been carried out by PKK rebels.

The violence comes days after Turkish warplanes bombed PKK positions in northern Iraq.

Ankara has launched a two-pronged "anti-terror" operation against the self-proclaimed "Islamic State" (IS) in Syria and PKK militants after a series of attacks on Turkish territory. However, the air strikes have mainly targeted the PKK.

The Turkish government has so far refused to release official casualty figures, but the sheer number of warplanes involved suggests the scale of the operation and has raised concerns in some Western countries.

On July 30, in the most intense bombing campaign, Türkiye deployed up to 80 aircraft to attack PKK targets./
