Tan Ky: Towards commercial agricultural production

August 5, 2015 09:08

(Baonghean) - With the advantage of a relatively large and concentrated agricultural land area, and a number of factories and processing facilities in the area, it has created an important premise for Tan Ky to move towards effective and sustainable development of commodity agriculture.

The period 2011 - 2015 marked a number of achievements in agricultural production of Tan Ky district, which were quite impressive results in the transformation of crop structure, seasonal structure, as well as scientific and technical solutions in agricultural production, both in cultivation and livestock. Sugarcane has become the main crop in the area with an area of 7,000 ha/planned 9,000 ha of the entire raw material area. Therefore, the number 1 spearhead for sugarcane is to apply scientific and technical advances in varieties, fertilizers, and irrigation solutions to stabilize the area, increase productivity and sugarcane output, and meet the raw material source for Song Con Sugar Factory after increasing processing capacity.

Tan Ky district leaders visited the commercial pig farming model in Nghia Hanh commune.

Present at the sugarcane garden of Mr. Thieu Thanh Long's family, Dong Mua hamlet, Nghia Dung commune, the 7.2 ha sugarcane field is green and has big, strong trees. Dong Mua land has been planted with sugarcane since 2007, but each crop yielded only 40 - 45 tons/ha, so the efficiency was not significant. Recently, he decided to switch to growing high-yield cassava, but cassava also "disliked" the barren land, so the yield was not high, the revenue only reached over 100 million VND. Mr. Long said: The area where he planted sugarcane before was barren, gravel, only bought and sim could survive. He restored the land in many ways, but due to low budget and poor soil, it was still ineffective. Starting this sugarcane crop, with financial support and deferred loans from the Song Con Sugar Factory, he invested nearly 500 million VND to install a pump and drip irrigation system for sugarcane, not only preserving the sugarcane area but also making the sugarcane garden grow and develop well, expected to yield over 100 tons/ha, more than double the previous sugarcane garden yield. If calculating the economic problem after only 3 years of maintaining such productivity, his family will pay back the entire initial investment cost borrowed from the Factory and will maintain technical solutions to have high revenue.

In order to improve the productivity and quality of sugarcane to stabilize the area, this sugarcane crop, Tan Ky District People's Committee coordinated with Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company to implement the drip irrigation solution with many other households in Tan An Commune, Song Con Farm. With the advantage of both watering the plants and providing economical fertilizer through the irrigation system, it not only helps sugarcane overcome the harsh drought, but also provides timely nutrients so that the sugarcane is very green and becomes a control model in agricultural production for sugarcane on the same land. Up to now, there have been over 20 hectares applying the drip irrigation method, and it is expected that on a suitable area, Tan Ky will coordinate with Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company to mobilize households in the raw material area to invest to achieve the goal of having at least 300 hectares of sugarcane in the next few crops implementing drip irrigation.

Comrade Nguyen Ba Quy, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Deputy Director of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company said: “We identify Tan Ky as the main and most concentrated raw material area of the factory, so in addition to the general mechanisms and policies for the raw material area, there are separate policies such as support for conversion to new planting, interest support for loans to buy tractors, installation of drip irrigation systems... for contiguous areas, contiguous plots ensuring an area of 8 hectares or more, especially contiguous areas with an area of 50 hectares or more will increase the purchase price by more than 10%”.

During the 2010 - 2015 term, Tan Ky successfully built many new variety models, using synchronous techniques to prove their effectiveness in practice. In the field of cultivation, 10 models were successfully built with a variety of crops for replication, such as the 5-hectare watermelon model in Nghia Dung commune; the 1-hectare turmeric model on household garden land, which is twice as effective as many other crops under the same conditions and is being replicated in Ky Tan commune; the 2-hectare cassava model in Nghia Hop commune has also affirmed its economic effectiveness on hilly land, with income 1.5 - 2 times higher than cassava, sugarcane... In particular, the model of growing hot chili for export was synchronously deployed on 25 hectares in Tan Phu commune with financial and technical support from Vintexco Duc Viet Joint Stock Company, which has shown much higher efficiency than simple cultivation. Although due to difficulties in output, the model cannot be further expanded, the demonstration of technical solutions in the planting and care process, and the coordination between the "4 houses" has added a lot of experience to the local government as well as the people.

The application of scientific and technical solutions during the term has also been promoted in the field of livestock farming to improve economic efficiency, creating a structural shift within the industry. There have been 6 models and projects implemented in the district such as the model of developing free-range chicken farming in Nghia Phuc commune, which has changed the way of small-scale farming and ineffective investment to apply scientific and technological advances in the direction of industry, safety and sustainability; or the model of using biological bedding in pig farming applied in 7 communes, which has brought about economic efficiency and environmental protection, and Tan Ky is planning to implement it throughout the area...

However, to prove the scale as well as the application of scientific and technological solutions in livestock farming, we must mention the appearance of large-scale farms with systematic investment, bringing high economic efficiency in Nghia Hanh and Nghia Dung. For example, when visiting a large-scale pig farm in hamlet 10, Nghia Hanh commune, we were surprised by the bold large-scale investment and application of scientific and technological solutions in effective livestock farming, ensuring the environment. The farm has an area of 2 hectares, raising nearly 1,800 pigs on an industrial scale with a closed system of cooling processes for pigs, sorting by barn, biogas system... The farm owner, Ms. Le Thi Thanh, said: Every year, the farm produces 3 batches, each batch earns over 350 million VND in profit. Currently, the farm is creating stable jobs for 5 workers.

With the goal of setting a total food output of about 50,000 - 55,000 hectares by 2020; stabilizing the area of standing sugarcane for the whole period at 7,500 - 8,000 hectares associated with building a high-tech production field model of about 300 hectares, bringing new varieties of good quality into production. Promoting the development of large-scale livestock farming in the direction of commodity production, moving livestock barns out of residential areas, striving for an average annual growth rate of the total herd of buffalo, cows and pigs of 2%. Comrade Nguyen Ba Thuc, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: To achieve the goal in agriculture, Tan Ky continues to promote the restructuring of crops, focusing on key crops, applying intensive technical measures to bring new varieties suitable to land and soil conditions, with high productivity and good quality. Strengthen agricultural extension work, develop agricultural services, create conditions for agricultural production development. Encourage people to develop farms with specialized production methods to create commodity products, increase high income per unit area.
