(Baonghean.vn) - In the last days of the year, people in Tan Huong, Ky Son, Nghia Hanh communes... of Tan Ky district are bustling with the sugarcane harvest season and molasses production for the Lunar New Year. This is a type of tree that was introduced into cultivation in the 2000s and has brought high economic efficiency to the people.
Tan Ky is a district with the largest sugarcane growing area in the province. The Tan Ky sugarcane and molasses brand has long been famous throughout the provinces and beyond. Currently, Song Con Sugar Factory is focusing on purchasing sugarcane for people to meet the market demand during Tet.
When talking about Tan Ky sugarcane, we must mention the molasses production craft of the people of Tan Huong and Ky Son communes. Thousands of liters of quality molasses are sold on the market during Tet and are favored by customers. Mr. Hoang Thanh An, a molasses producer in Tan Huong commune, said that his family produces 400 liters of molasses every day, but the amount of molasses produced is not enough to supply the market. By the end of this period, his family has produced more than 3,000 liters of molasses. Each liter of molasses currently costs 20,000 VND. This is the main source of income for his family as well as other households in the commune.
Tan Huong commune currently has more than 30 families who still maintain this traditional craft. However, according to Mr. An, to produce delicious drops of molasses is not simple at all, from the stage of pressing the sugarcane to the stage of extracting the molasses. The most important thing is to always keep the fire steady when cooking. The fire used to cook molasses must be from the bagasse, charcoal cannot be used. Therefore, bagasse is an important fuel source that people carefully preserve. Each cooking session takes 4-5 hours.
