Tan Ky effectively prevents swine flu
(Baonghean.vn) -Although Tan Ky is a locality with nearly 100% of pig breeds imported from the lowlands, up to now, there has been no outbreak of blue ear disease in pigs. The three factors that Tan Ky has done well to prevent blue ear disease in pigs are vaccination, disinfection and strict control of livestock passing through the area.
At this time, some districts are suffering from blue ear disease. This is a very worrying issue for mountainous districts, including Tan Ky. Because in mountainous districts, most of the breeding pigs and pork are transported and supplied from the lowlands. If localities do not have preventive measures, blue ear disease can easily appear in their areas.
For Tan Ky district, since the end of July until now, on National Highway 15A, the section adjacent to Ho Chi Minh Road, the District People's Committee has established quarantine checkpoints, arranged veterinary and police forces to be on duty 24/7. Many times we passed by here, and saw that the veterinary force worked very responsibly, every time a vehicle passed by transporting pigs, it was strictly checked and controlled. Thinking that there was blue ear disease in pigs in the district, we stopped to find out, and the veterinary officers told us that although there was no blue ear disease in pigs in Tan Ky, but because of the tasks assigned by the district, we took turns working at the checkpoints day and night. On National Highway 15A, traders transport pigs back and forth through the area every day, if we are not determined, the disease will easily spread to the district's pig herd.

Mr. Le Duc Tinh - Head of the District Veterinary Station, said: Tan Ky has never had a blue ear disease outbreak in pigs, so the risk of a blue ear disease outbreak due to an old outbreak is non-existent. Therefore, one of the tasks of preventing blue ear disease in pigs in Tan Ky at present is to strictly inspect and control vehicles transporting pigs and pig products in and out of the area. National Highway 15A is the lifeline of the district, so traders from lowland districts often transport pigs through here. Having identified this problem, on July 17, the District People's Committee issued a decision to establish a quarantine checkpoint on this route.
Although the veterinary force is small, the Station has coordinated with the district police and Lat Town police to assign 2 comrades per shift to be on duty continuously during the day. During the duty at the checkpoint, the veterinary force has discovered and checked many vehicles transporting pigs in and out of the area, but most of them have veterinary quarantine records and the pig's health is guaranteed. In case of detecting pigs of unknown origin or poor health, the functional force will handle according to regulations.
In addition to checking and strictly controlling the transportation of pigs in and out of the area, Tan Ky also focuses on vaccinating livestock against anthrax, foot-and-mouth disease, etc.; regularly and periodically spraying disinfectants. Since the beginning of the year, the District Veterinary Station has been using 960 liters of chemicals to spray disinfectants at pig farms and pig transport vehicles through quarantine checkpoints. At this time, Tan Ky is also implementing disease vaccination for livestock and poultry.
Tan Ky's policy is that when localities currently experiencing blue ear disease in pigs declare the epidemic is over, the district will decide to stop quarantine checkpoints for livestock entering and leaving the area.
