In the first press conference after Mr. Trump took office, White House press secretary Sean Spicer announced that the new President had officially confirmed the positions of Secretary of Defense and Secretary of Homeland Security that he had previously chosen. Specifically, the Secretary of Defense was assigned to retired General James Mattis, and the Secretary of Homeland Security was assigned to retired General John Kelly.

Immediately after the first appointment decree, the US Senate officially approved this appointment decision. Specifically, the Senate voted to approve the position of Secretary of Defense with an overwhelming 98-1 vote. The position of Secretary of the Interior was approved with an 88-11 vote.

After being appointed, new Secretary of Defense James Mattis gave his first speech at the Pentagon. He expressed his gratitude for serving alongside the new President as Secretary of Defense.

“Together with the intelligence community, we are the sentinels and protectors of our nation. Every action we take ensures our military is ready to fight today and in the future. We will work with the State Department to strengthen our capabilities. Furthermore, we will devote ourselves to earning the trust of Congress and the American people for every taxpayer dollar we spend on our national defense,” Mattis said.

New Secretary of Defense Mattis also expressed confidence that the new President will do his job well, and pledged that he will do his best in his new position.

In addition, President Trump also signed an executive order freezing all new regulations, including directing federal agencies to “ease the burdens” of the Obamacare health care law. The executive order states that repealing Obamacare without a replacement would violate the national budget. The executive order directs agencies to waive, delay, and waive the health care law whenever possible, thereby “minimizing the economic burden” of repealing Obamacare.
