Nghe An Provincial People's Court: Trial of 4 defendants for anti-state propaganda
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of May 24, in Vinh City, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of 4 defendants for the crime of propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The four defendants are: Dau Van Duong (born in 1988) and Tran Huu Duc (born in 1988), both residing in Hamlet 4, Nam Loc Commune, Nam Dan District; Chu Manh Son (born in 1989, residing in Hamlet 12B, Phuc Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh); Hoang Phong (born in 1987, residing in Hamlet 23, Quynh Lam Commune, Quynh Luu).
According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, in March and April 2011, Dau Van Duong, Nguyen Xuan Kim, and Tran Huu Duc went to Hue to meet Nguyen Van Ly (formerly a priest of Hue diocese). Ly gave them money for travel and promised to send them money to buy tools and print documents with propaganda content against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Nghe An Provincial Police issued an order to temporarily detain the defendants from August 2, 2011. The other subjects including Nguyen Xuan Kim, Dang Xuan Tuong, Trinh Van Thuong, Hoang Duc Ai, the security investigation agency continued to prosecute the defendants and issued an order to temporarily detain them, but because they had escaped, they will be separated and tried as a separate case.

The jury sentenced: Dau Van Duong: 42 months in prison, 18 months probation after completing the prison sentence; Tran Huu Duc: 39 months in prison, 12 months probation; Chu Manh Son: 36 months in prison, 1 year probation; Hoang Phong: 24 months in prison but suspended sentence and probation period of 36 months.
