Donating Sunfish to Vietnam Museum of Nature
(Baonghean.vn) - The Sunfish that fishermen in Quynh Phuong - Quynh Luu just caught was donated by traders in Quynh Luu to the Vietnam Museum of Nature for scientific research.
On the afternoon of May 14, after buying the Sunfish for 4.5 million VND, Mr. Pham Xuan Chien donated it to the Vietnam Museum of Nature for scientific research. At the reception, the staff of the Vietnam Museum of Nature also reminded the local people that whenever they catch or find a Sunfish caught in a net, they should immediately release it back into the sea. Because this is a rare fish listed in the Vietnam Red Book that needs to be protected and not caught. The Sunfish has now been brought to the Vietnam Museum of Nature for scientific research.

Mr. Trinh Xuan Son - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Museum of Nature said: "This is a rare fish listed in the Vietnam Red Book, which is in danger of extinction and needs to be protected. The fish will be made into a specimen for display to promote and educate the community and serve scientific research."
As reported, on the morning of April 12, 2012, Mr. Ho Van Doan, resident of Quynh Phuong commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An - the boat owner, after catching a Moon fish in Nghe An sea, brought it home and Mr. Chien came to buy it. After buying it, Mr. Chien contacted the staff of the Vietnam Museum of Nature and on the afternoon of April 14, 2012, Mr. Trinh Xuan Son led the way to Mr. Chien's family and received this fish.
Mr. Son also added that this was the second time he received a Moonfish caught by Quynh Luu fishermen. This fish species is extremely rare and listed in the Vietnam Red Book and needs to be preserved. If fishermen across the country catch a living Moonfish, they should release it back into the marine environment to live and develop.
