This is the information in the report of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs at the workshop "Sharing information in the field of social security", held on May 26.

Mr. Ngo Truong Thi, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Protection, said that the final results of the general survey of poor and near-poor households nationwide, according to the poverty standards for the period 2011 - 2015, showed that the number of poor households nationwide is currently 3,055,566 households, the number of near-poor households is 1,612,181 households.

Meanwhile, the results announced by the General Statistics Office at the end of 2010 showed that the number of poor households nationwide was nearly 2 million. Thus, after the poverty line was increased, the number of poor households increased by 1 million, equivalent to an increase of 50%.

It is known that from 2011, the poverty line will be adjusted annually depending on the actual cost of people's minimum needs. Experts in this field believe that the annual adjustment will help the number of poor households to reflect reality and be most accurate.
