Strengthen quarantine work to prevent the spread of diseases in livestock and poultry

(Baonghean.vn) -This afternoon, August 13, the working delegation of the Department of Animal Health led by Mr. Hoang Van Nam - Acting Director of the Department had a working session with the People's Committee of Nghe An province on disease prevention in livestock and poultry in the current period. Receiving and working with the delegation were comrades: Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Ho Ngoc Sy - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and representatives of a number of provincial departments, branches and sectors.

As of August 13, Nghe An has had 14 outbreaks of avian influenza in 9 districts and towns: Quynh Luu, Yen Thanh, Vinh City, Nam Dan, Thai Hoa Town, Do Luong, Cua Lo, Dien Chau and Nghi Loc. Blue-ear pig disease has also appeared in 4 districts: Yen Thanh, Quynh Luu, Thanh Chuong and Hung Nguyen with 14 outbreaks. According to the general assessment, the epidemic trend is gradually stabilizing. As of August 13, 11/14 outbreaks of avian influenza have passed from 5 to 20 days without any more sick poultry dying and having to be destroyed. In 4 districts with blue-ear pig disease, the epidemic trend is also decreasing sharply, currently 12/14 outbreaks have passed from 9 to 18 days without any sick pigs having to be destroyed.

At the meeting, the acting Director of the Department of Animal Health highly appreciated Nghe An's efforts in implementing synchronous and drastic measures, thereby containing the epidemic in a narrow area, the epidemic mainly occurring on a small scale; at the same time, he directed the province and the agricultural sector not to be subjective in the face of the epidemic's developments, especially in the current period, when the epidemic is complicated across the country, and weather conditions are unfavorable for disease prevention in livestock and poultry. Strengthen control of the transportation of cattle from Laos through Ky Son to lowland districts for consumption, do a good job of quarantine, and prevent the spread of disease from outside into Nghe An province.
