Strengthening the fight against smuggling and trade fraud

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of April 3, the Steering Committee 389 of Nghe An province held a conference to evaluate the results of fighting smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods in 2014 and deploy tasks for 2015. Comrade Le Xuan Dai - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 389 chaired the conference.

Overview of the working session

In 2014, the Provincial Steering Committee 389 advised the Provincial People's Committee to regularly direct sectors and localities to coordinate interdisciplinary inspections of food safety and hygiene, product quality, children's toys, moon cakes, helmets, and inspection of private medical practice... As a result, the police, border guards, forest rangers, and market management forces inspected over 34,800 cases, handled 11,650 cases, with a total fine of over VND286 billion. Of which, the total fines and tax arrears were over VND186 billion; administrative fines were nearly VND59 billion; and goods worth over VND42 billion were confiscated and destroyed. Notably, during the year, the provincial police and the Department of Science and Technology inspected and discovered 11 petrol stations using fake ICs to reduce the amount of petrol sold to customers by 4-11%.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Xuan Dai acknowledged and highly appreciated the results achieved by the Steering Committee; at the same time, he emphasized that currently, the situation of trading in counterfeit and poor quality goods, mainly goods that do not meet food safety standards, is still happening with many sophisticated tricks. To further improve the work of preventing smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods, it is necessary to focus on propaganda and legal education to raise consumer awareness; promote the role of people in providing information to authorities to detect and handle violations. The forces need to conduct basic investigations, grasp the situation, methods, and tricks of criminals; identify key routes, areas, and large smuggling rings and gangs. Effectively combat the production, trade and transportation of prohibited goods, smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, commercial fraud, especially the trade and transportation of counterfeit money, fireworks, explosives, foreign alcohol, foreign sugar, foreign cigarettes. Resolutely and strictly handle violators according to the provisions of the law...
