Strengthening physical education for high school students
(Baonghean.vn) - In recent years, along with improving the quality of education in cultural subjects, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training has strengthened physical education solutions for students in general schools.
The two most important solutions are to build physical education facilities and physical education teachers in schools. Although not yet complete, all high schools in Nghe An are equipped with training equipment, playgrounds, and training grounds for teaching, learning, and physical education. 4 multi-purpose buildings of 4 high schools have been and are being put into use.
The physical education teachers of the schools are implemented according to the staffing standards (currently, at the primary level there are 20, at the secondary level 970, at the high school level 270 people) and are regularly trained and fostered to improve their professional capacity. The emulation movement to strive to become excellent teachers at all levels among physical education teachers is increasingly widespread. Most recently, in the provincial competition to select excellent high school teachers in the 2011-2012 school year, 50 physical education teachers participated in the competition, 28 of whom were recognized as excellent teachers at the provincial level.
The facilities and physical education teachers have ensured that schools implement the subject program correctly and with quality. 100% of general schools (including 538 primary schools, 413 secondary schools, 90 high schools) fully implement the content and duration of the Physical Education and Health Education curriculum and organize students to practice and compete according to the prescribed physical training standards. The situation of some schools cutting physical education hours as before has ended.
In addition to implementing the main curriculum, extracurricular activities and activities to improve the quality of physical education for students in schools are promoted. Although there are still difficulties in staffing, having to arrange most of the labor under contract, currently over 80% of general schools have medical staff to provide primary health care for students. Over 80% of general schools have medicine cabinets, medical rooms and conduct periodic health check-ups for students.
For many years, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training has persistently directed the implementation of the green-clean-beautiful movement in schools. Most schools have implemented this movement well and effectively; many schools have campuses that ensure pedagogical quality, serving educational needs well. About 40% of schools ensure clean toilets; nearly 50% of schools have built clean water facilities for students to use and have water that meets hygiene requirements for students to drink every day and no school has had food poisoning. The Department has also directed schools to implement many measures to educate traffic safety, prevent drugs, prevent AIDS and social evils, prevent the harmful effects of tobacco; build and implement well the cultural, artistic and sports movement in schools. The folk song singing movement continues to be maintained; many folk games have been exploited, restored and brought into schools; Arts and sports competitions are regularly organized by schools. Especially in recent years, life skills education for students has been effectively implemented by schools.
What is special is that the educational management levels in Nghe An have directed the maintenance of order and quality of the Phu Dong Sports Festival from the grassroots level up to the province and actively participated in sports activities organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, and participated in the provincial Sports Festival. Schools organize the Phu Dong Sports Festival once a year, districts and provinces organize the Phu Dong Sports Festival every two years in their units and localities.
This school year, since November 2011, schools in the province have been enthusiastically preparing for the new Phu Dong Sports Festival season. On March 4, Nghe An opened the 15th Phu Dong Sports Festival. Looking back at the 15 provincial Phu Dong Sports Festivals that Nghe An has gone through, the quality has always improved. Each provincial Phu Dong Sports Festival always has about 1,300 athletes competing in 8 events: athletics, table tennis, volleyball, soccer, badminton, shuttlecock kicking, chess, crossbow shooting. Athletics alone has 32 records (18 records of high school students, 14 records of middle school students), each Sports Festival has at least 3-4 old records broken. Currently, the number of records still held are: 1992: 01; 1996: 03; 2000: 03; 2002: 02; 2004: 06; 2006: 06; 2008: 02; 2010: 06 and 2012: 03.
According to Mr. Le Van Ngo, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Nghe An, the Phu Dong Sports Festival at all levels has become a sports festival for students; it is truly the pinnacle of the physical training movement and reflects the quality of physical education in schools in Nghe An. The Phu Dong Sports Festival has contributed to maintaining and promoting the physical training movement following the example of great Uncle Ho; has motivated students to regularly practice to compete in sports, creating conditions to improve physical strength and contributing to personality education for young students.
To achieve the above results, in addition to the direction and management; the investment of efforts of the Education and Training Sector, it is necessary to mention the effective coordination of related sectors. Schools regularly coordinate closely with families, society and youth organizations, associations, and teams in physical education for students. Leaders of the culture, sports and tourism sector and youth organizations not only coordinate with educational management levels to organize movements and organize cultural and sports activities for school youth, but also invest in facilities for these activities.
