Strengthening international economic integration in the agricultural sector

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 9, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held an online conference with localities to assess the international economic integration of the agricultural and rural sectors in the first quarter of 2015 and deploy tasks in the coming time. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat chaired the conference.

Attending the conference at Nghe An bridge point were comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and representatives of leaders of relevant provincial departments and branches.

Overview of the conference

Reporting at the conference, the leader of the Department of International Cooperation - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that, implementing bilateral and regional trade agreements, Vietnam has diversified its markets and export products, creating conditions for domestic production development, creating jobs and increasing income for farmers. By integrating internationally, it has changed the thinking and management system of the agricultural sector; promoted changes in production structure, promoted the application of science and technology, improved productivity, quality and competitiveness of agriculture, forestry and fishery products and strengthened the system of technical standards for food safety and hygiene. Thanks to that, the proportion of agricultural exports in our country's commodity exports has always been stable at a high level, reaching 26-27%. Agriculture is the only sector with a trade surplus to the world market with 8.5 billion USD in 2013 and 9.5 billion USD in 2014.

Aiming at the goal of increasing resources, expanding markets to develop Vietnam's agricultural sector to develop rural areas sustainably and effectively, creating more jobs and increasing income for people, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set strategic directions from now until 2030. That is, proactively participating in important, strategic market commitments of the region and the world, increasing access to agricultural markets; Prioritizing strengthening cooperation with major partners in production, business, agriculture, etc.

At the conference, localities and enterprises in the agricultural sector raised challenges when implementing international economic integration. They emphasized the challenge of market competition pressure between imported goods and domestically produced goods...

Speaking at the conference, Minister Cao Duc Phat emphasized that international economic integration is the top priority of the Vietnamese Government, an important tool to restructure the national economy as well as the agricultural and rural development sector. The goal of international economic integration and trade liberalization is to find opportunities and markets for domestic goods, including the agricultural sector. Integration to create strong development momentum. However, there are still many challenges, requiring localities and enterprises to come up with solutions and long-term strategic directions to take full advantage of international economic integration opportunities to bring sustainable development to Vietnam's agricultural economy and rural development./.
