Further strengthen forest protection work
(Baonghean) –This morning, in Vinh City, the Steering Committee for urgent issues in forest protection and forest fire prevention and control (PCCCR) held a conference to review the work of forest protection and forest fire prevention in 2010 and deploy the direction and tasks for 2011. Comrade Nguyen Dinh Chi - Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee chaired.
Assessing the work of PCCCR in 2010, comrade Le Cao Binh - Head of the Forest Protection Department, Chief of the Office of the Steering Committee - Forest Protection & PCCCR stated: Last year, although the weather was complicated and the heat lasted for a long time, PCCCR work in the province was focused on, so the forest protection was better. The forested areas in the province did not have hot spots for illegal exploitation, trading and transportation of forest products, most forest fires were basically controlled. People's cultivation and production in swidden fields were managed by the industry and locality according to the correct technical process. The sense of responsibility of the community and society for management and forest protection work was raised.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting.
However, in 2010, Nghe An had the most forest fires compared to previous years in 10 districts, with 38 cases, causing more than 279 hectares of fire, of which more than 191 hectares were forest (more than 150 hectares of pine, acacia, eucalyptus forests, nearly 41 hectares of bamboo and natural wood forests). The districts with the most forest fires were Nam Dan (23.3 hectares), Thanh Chuong (6.2 hectares), Quynh Luu (30.8 hectares), Anh Son (32 hectares), Hung Nguyen (36 hectares). Nghi Loc had 2 fires, but caused more than 35 hectares of damage.
To minimize the number of fires and burned areas, in 2011, Nghe An province focused on improving control capacity, doing a good job of forest fire prevention and control, and sustainably protecting existing forest areas, especially special-use forests, pine forests, upstream protection forests, and border forests.
Comrade Le Cao Binh, Head of the Forestry Sub-Department reported.
Concluding the meeting, comrade Nguyen Dinh Chi suggested that the rewards for fire prevention and fighting work should be precise and pay more attention to the direct forces. The members of the Executive Committee assigned to monitor the districts should closely follow the direction of fire prevention and fighting work and promptly report on the inspection of task implementation, the development of plans, forces and means of fire prevention and fighting at the grassroots level to effectively carry out the fire prevention and fighting tasks in 2011.
