Strengthening international cooperation in the fight against drugs
(Baonghean.vn) -Nghe An has 419 km of border with Laos, with Nam Can international border gate, 1 main Thanh Thuy border gate, 3 secondary border gates, 14 border crossings and 92 km of coastline, so drug criminals take advantage of this condition to trade and transport drugs from abroad. Therefore, the authorities in Nghe An have increased international cooperation in the fight against drugs.
Nghe An Border Guard cooperates with Lao authorities to strengthen border inspection and control
Recently, drug criminals have been equipped with hot weapons, taking advantage of the high and rugged terrain in the border area to organize drug trafficking in large quantities. They are very active, reckless, and ready to shoot back when discovered by Vietnamese authorities, then flee across the border. This makes the work of protecting border security and fighting drug crimes very difficult.
It is known that about 80% of drugs in the area are "smuggled" across the border, so to effectively combat this situation, the authorities in Nghe An have strengthened international cooperation in the fight against drugs. The authorities in Nghe An and the provinces of Xieng Khouang, Hua Phan, and Bo LikhamXay (Laos) regularly exchange information and organize meetings at the provincial and district levels to enhance cooperation and mutual understanding in order to effectively implement the contents of drug prevention and control. Nghe An police organize professional training for leaders and police officers of Xieng Khouang, Hua Phan, and Bo LikhamXay provinces.
The Border Guard regularly coordinated with the police of Xieng Khouang, Hua Phan, and Bo LikhamXay provinces (Laos) to organize 12 provincial-level meetings and 71 station-level meetings to exchange information and coordinate in the fight against drugs. In addition, the Border Guard also coordinated with the functional forces of Laos to organize joint patrols in the border area; implemented the coordination regulations with Nghe An Customs to fight and arrest 6 cases, 7 subjects, confiscated 20 marijuana cakes, more than 530 grams of heroin, 2 motorbikes, 3 mobile phones and broke up many cases of illegal drug transportation from Laos across the border.
The border area opposite our province is a hot spot for opium replanting, production, storage, trading, and illegal use of narcotics. Due to such a complicated situation, the authorities in Nghe An have set up many projects to "fight" drugs from the border and effectively implemented Plan 109 on armed attacks. In the past, the authorities in Nghe An and neighboring Laos have coordinated to attack and sweep 14 groups of foreigners illegally entering the border. They broke 7 projects, arrested 15 subjects in drug trafficking rings from Laos to Nghe An, and handed over 1 case/3 subjects to the Xieng Khouang Provincial Police (Laos).
To improve the effectiveness of international cooperation in the fight against drugs, Nghe An province has coordinated with Hua Phan province of Laos to establish a cross-border drug prevention liaison office (BLO) located at the Que Phong and Sam To district police (Hua Phan province). With the active participation of the authorities of Nghe An and Laos, international cooperation in the fight against drugs will be highly effective.
