Strengthening inspection and supervision of licensing and mineral exploitation activities

(Baonghean.vn) -The conference was organized by the Provincial People's Committee this morning, August 24. Comrade Ho Duc Phoc - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the conference. Attending were Comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, leaders of the Provincial Police and representatives of several districts and towns.

According to reports, Nghe An currently has 113 large and small mining areas and 171 ore points, concentrated in Quy Hop, Que Phong, Quy Chau, Nghia Dan, Ky Son... As of July 2012, there were 327 mineral exploitation and processing enterprises in the whole province.

Implementing the decision of the Provincial People's Committee, two interdisciplinary working groups coordinated to inspect, detect and propose to remedy 538 cases of violations and shortcomings in the licensing process; focused on correcting 25 mining sites with high risks of labor safety; discovered 222 violations, handled 209 administrative cases and transferred 2 cases to the investigation agency for prosecution, the total amount of fines and confiscated exhibits paid to the state treasury was over 15 billion VND. Sweeped and expelled more than 1,600 cases of illegal mining, restored order in mining in 40 communes.

At the conference, opinions agreed on the need for closer coordination between working groups and local authorities. Strengthening management and inspection of licensing and post-licensing of mineral exploitation activities, especially continuing to maintain the activities of working groups.

Comrade Ho Duc Phoc - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts and results achieved after 1 year of implementing Decision 2636, and noted: The management of mineral activities still has many shortcomings; the fight against and handling of violations has not met practical requirements. In the coming time, it is necessary to strengthen the management and rectify mineral activities in the area. In particular, given the situation of mineral activities in the area that have been initially rectified, the province decided to merge the two working groups into one group, responsible for coordinating with the districts in inspecting and handling "hot spots", and at the same time inspecting and supervising mineral management activities of localities to advise the Provincial People's Committee on how to handle them.

On this occasion, 5 collectives and 13 individuals received certificates of merit from the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in implementing the Provincial People's Committee's decision on inspecting and handling mineral activities.
