Strengthening inspection of alcohol use while driving
(Baonghean.vn) - This morning (March 7), the Steering Committee of the project "Initiative to improve alcohol use and driving" of the International Center for Alcohol Policy ICAP in Vietnam and the Central Project Steering Committee led by Mr. Vu Quy Phi - Deputy Chief of Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee had a working session with the Steering Committee of the ICAP project in Nghe An province.
The project "Initiative to improve the use of alcohol and driving" has been implemented in Nghe An since September 2013. Recently, thanks to the implementation of this project, relevant levels and sectors have had many practical activities to contribute to reducing traffic accidents. During the project implementation, 83 accidents occurred in the province, killing 63 people... Regarding patrol and control work, the police force organized nearly 1,400 shifts with 4,300 officers participating. Detected and recorded 2,580 cases of alcohol concentration violations, temporarily revoked nearly 1,100 cases of licenses, fined and paid to the state budget 3.7 billion VND.

After listening to the opinions of relevant levels and sectors, Mr. Vu Quy Phi - Deputy Chief of Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee highly appreciated the results achieved by Nghe An, and at the same time pointed out some limitations in the implementation of the ICAP project: That is, people's awareness of complying with the Traffic Law is still limited. Patrols and controls by functional forces are not thorough and technical means to measure blood alcohol concentration such as blow tubes, cameras, and cameras are still lacking, which affects the detection and punishment of violations.
